Jiukuic5609 Posted October 31, 2009 Share #1 Posted October 31, 2009 Advertisement (gone after registration) Can I run my sb-28 nikon flash in manual mode with my m8. I would either mount it to the hot shoe or with a off-camera nikon cord. I need to use some off camera flash for indoor shots to keep the m8's noise had higher ISOs at bay (my fastest lens is a 28mm elmarit). Advertisement Posted October 31, 2009 Posted October 31, 2009 Hi Jiukuic5609, Take a look here Nikon Sb-28 Flash on Leica M8 in Manual Mode. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
ho_co Posted October 31, 2009 Share #2 Posted October 31, 2009 Dan, I have no experience with the SB-28 and little experience with Nikon flashes, so take the following as a starting point: A) Use the forum's search function; I think I've seen this topic before. Recent flashes use a low trigger voltage. Some flashes from 20 years ago had a high enough voltage that they could destroy the electronics of later cameras. (I think the SB-28's trigger voltage and polarity fall into the 'safe' category. For example, SB-800 is safe on the M8.) C) If you're worried about point B, Wein offers a range of "Safe-synch" shoes to avoid any incompatibilities. D) If the SB-28 allows manual operation and doesn't need any information from the camera except the "fire" signal, it should work fine (i.e., no ISO sensing, no aperture sensing, etc). E) If the SB-28 allows the simple, built-in flash automation that preceded TTL and CLS and all today's feedback mechanisms, that should work as well on-camera, and in some situations off-camera. And if you're lucky, someone who knows what he's talking about will pipe up.
mikenic Posted October 31, 2009 Share #3 Posted October 31, 2009 Yes the Nikon SB-28 works on manual or auto. You can also trigger it "off camera". Not TTL, so no data is transferred from camera to flash. Set all parameters eg ISO, zoom value etc, manually on the flash unit. Mike
Jiukuic5609 Posted October 31, 2009 Author Share #4 Posted October 31, 2009 Thanks - after I posted I hit up the search and found the a similar thread... my bad. I usually have better forum etiquette than this. My apologies....I looks like the M mode will work just fine.
