gwelland Posted October 30, 2009 Share #43 Posted October 30, 2009 By contrast, at the same time as I was told the grey delivery date, I was also told that I should be seeing a black camera in the next week or so. As it happens, it turns out that TODAY was the day. So it seems that 30th October was a good day for Leica dealers around the country/world based on the number of messages about M9 recipients. ashwinrao1 Posted October 31, 2009 Share #44 Posted October 31, 2009 Well, it has come to the end of the week, and no M9 is in sight at my dealer. Apparently, one came in for the individual ahead of me, but suddenly, my dealer would not inform me that I was next in line...making me anxious. Given that I put down my deposit, I am a bit frustrated by their newfound ambiguity (especially given my long buying history with them). Regardless, the person I spoke with is not my typical salesman, so maybe he did not know. He told me, "Maybe in a month, you'll have one...." after I had been told this week. Just venting....my ray of hope has dimmed a bit.
gwelland Posted October 31, 2009 Share #45 Posted October 31, 2009 Ashwin, My dealer in Portland received 2 Black M9's today and at least one other two weeks ago (that I turned down at the time ). Given that the bigger regional 'official' Leica dealer is in Seattle (Glazer's) I'd assume that they'd be getting more cameras than Portland. I did hear of some of the other Seattle area dealers seeing M9's recently too.
deeelite Posted November 2, 2009 Share #46 Posted November 2, 2009 Leica is lucky - to still be in business and only because they created that niche market over 50+ years, its been a massive stuggle for them. They are not a giant company with a wealth of manufacturing in electronics behind them. This is a temporary supply and demand hurdle, that's all. Last night I went to listen to an inspiring talk by a lady charity worker who had spent her life helping disadvantaged people from all over the world and had achieved some amazing things. Sort of put my life into a different perspective. Slow delivery of the M9? - it matters not. Jeff I need that lady's speech right now or I'm going to go nuts alas I shouldn't have sold my M8 on 09/09/2009
chris_tribble Posted November 2, 2009 Share #47 Posted November 2, 2009 Advertisement (gone after registration) My dealer in London expects more at the end of next week - but I'm greedy and want my second body! Grey / black - not worried.
Wonka Posted November 4, 2009 Share #48 Posted November 4, 2009 Well I heard from my dealer this morning (a major NY camera store known not to take backorders) and they replied I will have my camera next week. So keep your eyes posted on their website and you may have a shot. I also contacted this company today (11/3/09) and was told that they have absolutely, positively no idea when these German toys will arrive here in the States. I repeatedly asked over and over "are you sure" to which they responded "we have no idea when they will arrive, Leica hasn't said." The unfortunate thing is that I, like many others, prepaid in full for this item and have been charged already. Of course, this is my favorite camera store and they would refund my money, but I would lose my place in their queue. So, I am stuck. Oh well. Now I know why they don't normally accept pre-orders. I wonder why they decided to to allow pre-orders with the M9? I also asked if changing my order from steel grey to black would help speed things up, but again, they didn't know. I personally like the steel grey one better than the black version.
ho_co Posted November 4, 2009 Share #49 Posted November 4, 2009 I agree on all your points, Won. The black cameras seem to be coming at a better rate than the gray ones; last time I checked the list of receipts on the forum (http://www.l-camera-forum.com/leica-forum/leica-m9-forum/100872-m9-delivery-register.html and http://maps.google.com/maps/ms?ie=UTF8&hl=en&msa=0&msid=113556295502524237729.000474fce3fab3046a512&ll=26.091013,-80.122604&spn=175.250414,360&z=2), only about 7% of reported cameras were gray. Since even Leica US doesn't know ahead of time what Germany will send next, there's unfortunately no way B&H can tell you whether you'd do better by switching from gray to black. But if the idea of switching to black has occurred to you, that might get you a camera sooner. I also want the gray body, so I haven't ordered yet. At least, you're on the list. Good luck!
