Hey guys,

I've had my M8 for about a month now. It's excellent. Sometimes I wonder why I ever existed without it. Right now I have a 50mm f/2,5 Summarit and a 90mm f/2,0 Summicron. I'm looking for a new lens with a wider angle and possibly a deeper field of focus. After some very preliminary research I've concluded with the following options:

1. Summilux 21mm f/1,4 ASPH

2. Elmarit 21mm f/2.8 ASPH

3. Summilux 35mm f/1,4 ASPH

Also, I was wondering about the Tri-Elmar 16-18-21mm f/4,0 ASPH lens. What's everyone's opinion on that?

Thanks,

Eddie

What is the main difference between the 24 mm Elmar and the 24 mm Elmarit? Aside from the f/3,8 vs f/2,8 difference.

Price I think. Although the elmar is a later design the 24 elmarit has always been regarded as one of Leica's best lenses, but then they are all great.

The traditional step down from a 50/90 set is 28, which also allows you to add a 21mm later, and not have lenses too close to each other. 35 and 50 are somewhat close, and 21 and 50 are miles apart. I would suggest the 28mm f/2.8 ASPH, or perhaps the pre-ASPH if you want a gentler, more classical rendering.

I find the 28mm focal length also very nice on the M8. I also own a 50mm lens and I find 28mm a good complement to it. (My kit is 15-28-50-75)

FYI; I'm 15, 28, 50, and 90. The 15 and 90s are Voigtlander lenses; the 28/2 and 50/1.4 Leicas.

I'd say the 28 focal length is the one that is my "goto" lens.

I also have a CV 25/4 and CV 50/2.5; right now these are stored, as my Leicas are still new.

The 25/4 was my one and only lens for my M8 for the longest while; it is a great lens; not that fast in low light, though.
