C_R Posted October 25, 2009 Share #1 Posted October 25, 2009 Advertisement (gone after registration) I got my M9 just before a trip to Southern France, coming back with 1300 shots my first impressions are: - image quality is really excellent - wearing glasses, the 28 mm lines are quite useless. I was glad to have an external 28 mm viewfinder, this worked fine for me (Elmarit 28) - the presets and the ISO button are very nice features - red color shift in the corners is a serious problem with my CV 15. Cornerfix is a great tool, but sometimes the profiles dont work. After wading through Margulis´ Photoshop LAB color book before, I tried a manual fix with a curves adjustment layer in LAB mode: a quick solution is to shift the lower left curve point of a resp. b curve upwards, until the corners look fine, then mask the layer (Ctrl-I), and unmask the corners with the gradient tool. Depending on asymmetry of color shift, you can reduce the effect with the opacity slider. An optimal, bit slower workflow makes use of selective control points on a and b curve, a and b values can be tailored by use of the pipette tool. Sounds complicated, but is really worth the effort. C_R Posted October 25, 2009 Author Share #3 Posted October 25, 2009 John, your portfolio is outstanding ! But- how did you manage to get the eagle shot with Leica M in the Jackson hole folder ? Just curious
michali Posted October 25, 2009 Share #4 Posted October 25, 2009 Carsten- Welcome to the Forum. I really enjoyed viewing your images, you've done some wonderful work with the M9. I've had the M9 for 6 weeks now and have shot with it everyday. I'm really enjoying getting to know the camera after 2 years with the M8, which I'm keeping as a back up. sandymc Posted October 26, 2009 Share #6 Posted October 26, 2009 - red color shift in the corners is a serious problem with my CV 15. Cornerfix is a great tool, but sometimes the profiles dont work. If you're not already using 1.3.0.2, then I'd suggest trying that - prior versions did have an occasional "red edges" problem with some M9 images - some images were fixed fine, others not. If you still have a problem, then send me the image and reference file..... Sandy

If you still have a problem, then send me the image and reference file..... Sandy Sandy, I used the previous version and updated now to 1.3.0.2. Thanks for the advice, the new version is indeed MUCH better, the result was perfect. BTW, it seems to make a difference under which lighting conditions you profile your lens. The first profile for my CV15 was under sunny light, direct on a white wall. The second profile was under overcast conditions, through a white sheet of paper, worked better than the "sunny" version for a photo that was made @ sunset. I guess it is advisable to make different profiles for special light situations, depending on the IR part in the light Thank you for this excellent software ! jonoslack Posted October 26, 2009 Share #8 Posted October 26, 2009 HI Carsten Welcome! Great photos, and good to see someone new. Your lab mode solution sounded tough to me, so I'm pleased to hear that Sandy's new version of cornerfix does the job . . . I'm about to dig my CV15 out of the cupboard it was relegated to in the first week with the M9!

C_R Posted October 26, 2009 Author Share #11 Posted October 26, 2009 Iono and David, thanks for welcome - Iono, dont forget the profile shots for Cornerfix :-) David, I visited Southern France (Pernes de la Fontaines, Avignon, Venasque, Roussillion, Gordes, Senanques, Les Baux de Provence, St Remy de Provence, Saintes Maries de la Mer, Camargue, Port Camargue, Le Lavandou, Ramatuelle, St Tropez, Gassin), quite a tour de force but rewarding, a paradise for photographers...
