Pedro Posted October 25, 2009 Share #1 Posted October 25, 2009 Advertisement (gone after registration) I only own black lenses and black M7 body. Thinking about a silver MP. I rarely see silver bodies wearing black lenses. I don't want to buy any silver lenses. What's your opinion on silver bodies with black lenses? If you have a picture of your M silver camera wearing a black lens - please post. Thanks.

bill Posted October 25, 2009 Share #2 Posted October 25, 2009 GAAAAAAAHHHH!!!! Does it really matter???? Here's the same mass debate the other way around... http://www.l-camera-forum.com/leica-forum/customer-forum/85581-chrome-lenses-black-bodies.html Regards, Bill
thomasw_ Posted October 25, 2009 Share #3 Posted October 25, 2009 i prefer the black lenses because it is easier for me to read the aperature and distance numbers with the higher contrast. That said, I have a silver chrome MP and a BP MP; and both seem quite satisfied attached to either a black or a chrome lens, though admittedly I usually use my only chrome lens on my chrome MP. However, to answer you: the black lenses on the chrome MP look fine aesthetically to my eyes.
tobey bilek Posted October 25, 2009 Share #4 Posted October 25, 2009 Black on silver looks elegant. Silver on silver equally as nice. Before digital, I used two bodies, one for monochrome, one for color and they had appropiate finishes. I established this after a screw up one time. Silver on black looks like a hodge podge, dogs breakfast, or whatever. I use my new silver 50 2.8 on a black body because that is the kind of lens I could get a deal on. Most are Mandler design black lenses. Black lenses in early configurations are collectables and I would not want to use them. Price a mint 50 2.0 Rigid in black if you want. So I use my chrome one. There were no black lenses for early black bodies in 50 mm, so you used a chrome or nickle one.
Photon42 Posted October 25, 2009 Share #5 Posted October 25, 2009 Of course it doesn't matter for the outcome. Of course it matters for Pedro. What's about colors of cars, motorcycles. If I have the choice, I'd probably go for chrome lenses, when the aren't too large. For instance the the 90/2 AA in chrome looks strange to my eyes. If in doubt, chromes seem to be a tad more forgiving, so you will see little marks probably sooner on a black lens. Leica chrome lenses used to be quite a bit heavier. Don't know if this is still the case with their latest products (28/2.8 chrome, e.g.). However, getting back to the question - :-D - black lenses on chrome cameras are definitely OK. I even like it the other way round. There is, at least within the Leica lens range, anyway no option other than black with quite a number of lenses. Don't worry.
