roguewave Posted October 24, 2009 Share #1 Posted October 24, 2009 Advertisement (gone after registration) Just got a coolscan 4000 ED from Ebay. Loaded the scan software, but it doesn't find the scanner. Do I need to updated the firmware? Anyone with history with the device that can provide some direction would be a saint about now. Thanks, Ben

salomons Posted October 24, 2009 Share #2 Posted October 24, 2009 Hi had the same problem with the Nikon IV. If I am not mistaken the 4000 has a USB connection as well. From memory: Disconnected the scanner, rebooted, then connected the scanner, then started the software. If that doesn't work, try rebooting with the scanner attached. Good luck,

dewittehd Posted October 24, 2009 Share #4 Posted October 24, 2009 If you are running XP then go to Start->Control Panel->System->Hardware->Device Manager. Click on the name of the computer and then Actions->Check for hardware change. Alternatively, reboot with the scanner switched on. Also make sure Firewire is implemented and all drivers installed. Good luck, Jean
roguewave Posted October 24, 2009 Author Share #5 Posted October 24, 2009 Jean, thanks. I tried that. Apparently the film strip is stuck in the adapter & the scanner reports "a problem" to the computer in Device Manager. The scan turns ok, but immediately, that deadly yellow flag comes up making the scanner unable to communicate. Is there a way to "unlock" the film holder? Thanks, Ben
Guest maddoc2003jp Posted October 27, 2009 Share #6 Posted October 27, 2009 I have the same scanner .... If film is stuck in the holder (SA-21, I assume ?), then disconnect the scanner from the computer and switch the disconnected scanner on. After the self-test, the scanner ejects any film still stuck inside. My 4000ED had a "hick-up" because the fire-wire cable was not properly connected to the scanner and when ejecting by software (Vuescan), the last centimeter film got stuck inside the scanner. Switching the scanner off and on again ejected the stuck piece of film.
