epand56 Posted November 4, 2009 Share #21 Posted November 4, 2009 Advertisement (gone after registration) Thanks a lot, so far. Anybody else experiencing the same problem? I can't believe that!!! I thought it was over with the M9! In the case I will ever get one I'll have to check for that disease quite well...

Mokkacream Posted November 5, 2009 Author Share #22 Posted November 5, 2009 The camera (and lenses) is back home again! Problem: backfocus Question: my (eyes) problem, camera's problem or lens's problem? Answer: RF adjusted, distance meter adjusted, sensor plain adjusted, some more minor things = camera problem. The Leica Service in Solms took 3 days, within 4 days I got everything back. All lenses were checked, too. What I appreciate very much, is that they adjusted the aperture ring of the 50 summilux, which I found to loose to feel it snapping in securely and reliably at any aperture. Now it's perfect. Also the bajonett of the M9 was to tight. Now fixed. First photos with the 50 summilux do not reveil any focus problem anymore. Tomorrow I will test the other lenses too. Jeff S Posted November 5, 2009 Share #23 Posted November 5, 2009 Even if you're confident that the issue is with the camera, it's best to send the camera and lenses together to Leica service. I did this in US to Leica NJ and got back my M8.2 and 4 lenses within 2 weeks. The benefit, besides getting everything calibrated as a system, is that they will inspect and adjust anything else if necessary, free of charge. One of the four lenses I sent was an older one, which they knew in advance, and they still tightened up the aperture ring as part of the free service. Despite some problems with small batch, hand made, complex products, I'm delighted that Leica takes the same personal approach to servicing these little bits of wonder. Jeff PS Just saw that I'm too late for OP, but will not delete post since it might prove useful to others. And, besides, your results correspond exactly to mine, including loose aperture ring. JWW Posted November 5, 2009 Share #24 Posted November 5, 2009 If it's a simple matter of the rangefinder being off, it is easily adjusted with an allen wrench. I adjusted my M8 a while back with an allen wrench to be spot on with all my lenses including the 75lux and Noctilux. The description on how to do this is has been posted on this forum. darkspark Posted November 6, 2009 Share #25 Posted November 6, 2009 ...I did this in US to Leica NJ and got back my M8.2 and 4 lenses within 2 weeks... I sent in my M8 to Leica NJ for adjustment. It's been 4 weeks and I still haven't got it back yet :\ I guess you were really lucky to get it back so quickly; either that or people are now sending in so many cameras/lens to them that there's a lot of service backlogs... Lines may be longer today. But, I contacted a rep and established a relationship by phone and email before sending in equipment. She shepherded the process for me and stayed in communication on status. I think this greatly helped to expedite. She also ensured that another lens I sent to be coded came back with the same complete shipment. I think it's always best to increase your chances for success. And, to express gratitude profusely. Shootist Posted November 6, 2009 Share #27 Posted November 6, 2009 Advertisement (gone after registration) The RF can go wrong after the camera left the factory. My M9 was spot on when I got it. After five weeks of rather severe vibration I have to send it to Solms to readjust the rangefinder. Landrovers on nonexistent roads - light aircraft of doubtful vintage - nothing surprising , but it means such things can happen when the parcel is shipped to you. Rangefinder focusing distance, near far, should not, that should be never, go out of adjustment until the parts wear. These are all hard adjustments locked in. What can annd does go out is the vertical alignment ajustment. That is just a U shaped bracket on a bar and is not locked in in any way, other then havinig a drop of lacquer or some type of locking compound dropped on the bracket+bar. For the parts to wear take a long time and a lot of use. If it goes out in a short period of time it wasn't properly adjusted and locked into place to begin with.
