Summarit 35mm filter / hood ring freezing....

Just had a glitch with my Summarit 35mm f2.5 lens (which I love by the way...).

I put on the UV/IR filter and all was fine. Then went to screw the hood ring off so I could put the hood on and the filter and ring were frozen on. Would not move.

Took it to local camera repair man and he fixed it pretty quick.

The filter and hood ring have different pitch threads and the hood ring has a lip the grips onto the filter when unscrewed hence locking them both tight.

So if you have a filter on the Summarit 35mm remove it before attempting to remove the hood ring and all is fine....

The Leica hood then screws on fine over the filter. It is just the hood ring that has an issue with the filter.

Checked my Summarit 90mm and it is different. The hood ring can be removed over the filter....

Anybody with the Summarit 50mm and 75mm want to add in their findings?

Summarit 75 has no problem screwing the hood outside the lens while the filter screws inside the front element.

Leica filters are mounted in aluminium, which has a nasty propensity for seizing and binding-on. B+W and Heliopan filters are mounted in brass, which does not suffer appreciably from that fault. I'm not sure if the Summarit hoods are made of aluminium or brass.
