ptarmigan Posted October 22, 2009 Share #1 Posted October 22, 2009 Advertisement (gone after registration) Help........... Can't seem to install and then view new paper profiles for 'soft proofing' and ultimately printing. I understood these went into HD/System/Library/Colorsync/Profiles but there are only a small number already in that file and the ones I added don't show in PS. Thanks in advance. Advertisement Posted October 22, 2009 Posted October 22, 2009 Hi ptarmigan, Take a look here PS CS3 and Mac - where to store paper colour profiles. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
Blitzi Posted October 22, 2009 Share #2 Posted October 22, 2009 Hi, i think you are looking in the wrong folder there. Please try HD/user/Libary/ColorSync... you should find them there, at least mine are in this very location. I know it is a little confusing having 2 Libary folders on a Mac but the one in the System folder is basically for ALL users or root applications, this is why you will find your monitor profiles there. Everything else always should go into the USER libary folder - unfortunately not every application is making use of that... Have look, I hop e you find your profiles there. Cheers Chris
Guido Posted October 22, 2009 Share #3 Posted October 22, 2009 Please try HD/user/Libary/ColorSync... you should find them there, at least mine are in this very location. I guess you meant HD/Users/yourusername/Library/ColorSync ...
ptarmigan Posted October 22, 2009 Author Share #4 Posted October 22, 2009 Nope, that doesn't work either!
Guest WPalank Posted October 23, 2009 Share #5 Posted October 23, 2009 Ian, I think I know where the problem lies. I think you are going to View > Proof Setup and expecting to see the Profile there (happens to me when I haven't printed for a while). The trick is to go View > Proof Setup > and select Custom (the first choice) and use the dropdown menu from there.
ericperlberg Posted October 23, 2009 Share #6 Posted October 23, 2009 Assuming that William's post hasn't solved your problem. 1) The profile should end in .icc. 2) Did someone make a profile for you? If so, make sure it's not still zipped. 3) As explained above, profiles can go in either of 2 places, either User/YourUserAccountName/Library/ColorSync/Profiles in which case, if you have more than one user account created, it will only show up in the account of the named user. If you only have one user then it won't matter. If you install it in /Library/ColorSync/Profiles it will be available for all user accounts defined for the computer 4) If you haven't quit and restarted photoshop you need to or it won't see the profile (as far as I remember) 5) If you still don't see the profile and you're positive its in the correct folder, try launching the colorsync utility in the utilities folder (or click on searchlight and type in colorsync utility and launch it. Click on profiles in the top menu bar of the window. If it doesn't show up on this list (open the various options) then click on profile first aid and click verify to see if maybe its damaged. Incidently you can do a kind of fun thing in the colorsync utility. 1) Click on Profiles on the menu bar of the colorsync utility window. 2) Under the heading Computer on the left pane you should see the profile for the M8. Click on it. A gamut map will appear in the gray blank space to the right. You can click on the gamut map and rotate it 360degrees. Click and hold on the gamut map and select hold for comparison. Now locate your monitor profile which will be under displays. You'll see a superimposition of the monitor profile on the M8 profile. Most likely the m8 profile is larger but this will show you the colours that the M8 can reproduce which your monitor can't show you. 3) You can do the same thing comparing the M8 profile with a particular paper or Adobe RGB or sRGB or what ever other profile you want to compare 4) Click and hold on the profile and select from the drop down menu clear comparison to clear the chosen viewing. If you have an image from your m8 or m9 or any other camera that actually has the saturated colours that the camera can capture but say your printer can't print (eg, compare your m8 profile to the paper profile you want to print to) then rendering intents come into play. Relative Colorimetric will produce more accurate colours for hues in both the source space and print space but may produce flat or dull colours for source space colours if they are out of gamut in your printer space. Alternatively, Perceptual Intent will preserve those same saturated colours which Relative Colorimetric doesn't do well with at the expense of some accuracy throughout the image. fun and games e
ptarmigan Posted October 27, 2009 Author Share #7 Posted October 27, 2009 Advertisement (gone after registration) OK, tried all of the above. I can see the new paper profiles which I downloaded from DS Colour Labs in the profiles folder. Just for good measure I added them at system and user level. However, only 2 of the profiles are available to me in PS CS3. I wonder if the other 3 are corrupt but they don't show in Colorsync as needing repair. They are icc files. Bazaar! I'll have to speak to DS Colour Labs.
Guest WPalank Posted October 27, 2009 Share #8 Posted October 27, 2009 From the Hahnemuhle website (which has worked for me 100% of the time). Installation using Mac OS: 1. Double-click on the downloaded Zip-file. The ICC profile will be extracted in the same folder automatically. 2. Now move the extracted ICC profile to the proper folder listed below. Mac OS 8-9x - System Folder > Color Sync Folder Mac OS X - HD > User > Library > ColorSync > Profiles Note: Please restart your graphics application (eg photoshop) if it was open during the profile installation. Are you sure you are going: HD > User > Library > ColorSync > Profiles and NOT: HD > Library > ColorSync > Profiles Two entirely different locations! I am indeed going for: HD > User > Library > ColorSync > Profiles however there are only these profiles in that folder, none of the rest that are visible in CS3. Most of the profiles that are visible in CS3 are held in HD > Library > ColorSync > Profiles Still can't get this to work!
adan Posted October 27, 2009 Share #10 Posted October 27, 2009 Well just to check - it DOES have ".icc" at the end of the file name, right? I just downloaded an InkPress Papers profile to test. I put it in Macintosh HD/Library/ColorSync/Profiles - and it immediately showed up in Photoshop CS4 as an option for printing or softproofing ("View>Proof Setup>Custom...." in the menus.) Didn't even have to restart Photoshop. Which profile specifically (brand/paper type) is giving you trouble?
Guest WPalank Posted October 27, 2009 Share #11 Posted October 27, 2009 Ian, It's not you. With some of the information you gave above, I went to this website: Paper profiles I downloaded one of the Fuji Profiles and It does NOT show up in the Proof set-up in Photoshop. I wonder why? Contact DS Colour Labs and when you figure it out, I would be interested in knowing. (I'm waiting for the cable guy to show up and I was a bit bored.) adan Posted October 27, 2009 Share #12 Posted October 27, 2009 Ooops - I see ptarmigan had already provided the answers to my previous questions - sorry! Those DS profiles show up in Photoshop, but scattered around, and without consistent names Here's how they show in my list, highlighted in yellow: Welcome, dear visitor!
