Sorry to disappoint, but for Hong Kong, I think you can pretty much forget about it. Supply is ridiculously tight, and anything which is available (if any at all) is being sold at a premium to MSRP; last numbers I heard, at a ~15% mark-up. Anecdotally, I was told by the salesperson in Tin Cheung that in PRC, the M9 is even fetching as high as US$9,600+ ... sheesh.

As stated in other threads: World Wide availability is very low. Cameras shipping goes to those who have preebooked a camera. Personally i think it will be around next summer, if even then, that you can walk into a store and buy one off the shelf.

...shouldn't have parted with your M8 before getting a fix on an M9. Good luck.

I got a good deal on the sale of my M8. I really never liked it. I have kept using my beloved M6 and rarely used the M8. The M9 is what the M8 should have been in the first place. Yes, HK is a crazy place to buy cameras... anything really, and the scams, overpricing and generalized bull going on is usually beyond my acceptance. HK has become a gigantic trap where people go because they think there are good deals... there are actually no deals and where there is one, they are hardly legit... China is a big country with lots of dealers around Shanghai and Beijing, many of them also of dubious credibility... I hope to find an M9 eventually but wither way, I will patiently wait for an available one. It will be worth any wait:)

That may be the case for tourists who do not know where to go. But that is true for everything and everyplace.

There are still honest dealers in HK and prices can be reasonable, particularly if you come from Europe where VAT is high and the Euro strong. But with highly desired items the honest dealers have no stock ... for obvious reasons.

Mainland China is a different story altogether, though of course what goes on there also affects HK.

Sorry, I don't really agreed with your comments. I was in HK last Oct. the M8.2 price was about $1,000- less than in the US. On the other hand, I paid a premium price for the brand new Noct F1 bcuz I can not find a new one in the States. When it is short on supply, some poeple is willing to pay a higher price to get it and that is why prices beocme higher. yes, some places are dishonest and charge more for tourists. you have to know your way around, go to check and compare prices b4 you make any pirchases. same idea for buying watches in HK too.

hi, I'm right now in Beijing. In fact, there's no Leica brunch in China so every leica products are mainly imported from HK and others frm EU and U.S.

I just ordered two Leica M9 from U.S dealer. One for myself another for sale. The Chinese store prices 10,000 USD roughly. Believe or not, a lots of new upper classics are still willing to purchase it.

Anyhow, if you would like to order a Leica M9 from U.S, feel free to contact me. I can give you some tips to get rid of the stupid duty fee.

I would buy it in UK as at least you get the passport with the purchase, and if you are resident outside the EU you should get the VAT off also. Currently as the camera is in huge demand I would suspect HKG is not going to be easy to get hold of a unit at a sensible price. However at the end of next year when things settle down I am sure HKG is indeed the place to buy it, although without the UK passport and with a worldwide Solms guarantee
