Mokkacream Posted October 19, 2009 Share #1 Posted October 19, 2009 Advertisement (gone after registration) M9 - 50 lux - ISO 640 - mixed light and Auto WB, ALR 2.5, Chromasoft M9 profile, automatic WB, further left untouched. This was a special mixed light situation: from left and back outside evening-light (already getting darker), front 2 tungsten light sources one from an orange the other from a red glass lamp! So the light was not only tungsten, but also coloured orange and red, which produces usually a quite cosy atmosphere. 50 f/1.4, ISO 640 handhold I love the colours, the soft skin tone graduation, the sharpness for being a f/1.4 / ISO 640 shot, the bukeh and the wonderful higher ISO noise. I coudn't get those pictures handhold with my D700 50 f/1.4 so far. What do you think? Welcome, dear visitor! johnbuckley Posted October 19, 2009 Share #2 Posted October 19, 2009 Andreas - I think it's as nice as you think it is. It's a lovely camera, and you did a nice job, in my opinion. Cheers, JB
Chroma project Posted October 19, 2009 Share #3 Posted October 19, 2009 love these adorable tones, warm colours. The Leica M9 is a perfect camera and a beautiful instrument indeed.
rosuna Posted October 19, 2009 Share #4 Posted October 19, 2009 It reminds me the look of the M8's files at 640 ISO... The "noise" looks very similar.

Andreas, I'm not sure whether you're asking for aesthetic comments but, for me, while the colours are very nice in, as you say, a difficult lighting situation, this picture would work better at one or two stops smalller aperture: I would have liked the lady on the left to be in slightly sharper focus because the eye is rather uncomfortably brought back and forth between the two women. While this type of double portrait often works well when one person is in focus and the other out of focus, in this composition this doesn't work well for me. You don't say what shutter speed you used, but if it was about 1/60 sec then one would need to go to ISO 1250, 1600 or 2500 to get the somewhat deeper DOF that I would want for this picture. —Mitch/Bangkok Bangkok Hysteria©: Book Project
ulrikft Posted October 20, 2009 Share #6 Posted October 20, 2009 Nothing negative to say about the image, but also nothing I could not reproduce with my d700 and 50 1.4, maybe your d700 needs a checkup?

Mitch, thanks very much. You are right. It's not the asthetics or composition. It's only a week, that I own the M9 and I'm trying it a lot. This photo is just a casual shot, but I was surprised of the beautiful quality of the higher ISO noise as well as of the sharpness and beautiful tones under these circumstances. I wasn't used to it with my Nikon D700. This is what I wanted to mention, just a positive surprise. The photo itsself is nothing special.
stevem7 Posted October 25, 2009 Share #8 Posted October 25, 2009 Thanks for posting, looks great. I found the magic number for really learning the M9 and the differences between it and the M8 (I am talking files here) is about 2 weeks. I am now getting results i really like with the M9 and my images now are surpassing my M8 images in the IQ department.
