JMacD Posted November 14, 2009 Share #22 Posted November 14, 2009 I ordered a grey /silver in August on a preorder. I received it yesterday, Nov 13. I like the finish more than the chrome, as it is closer to titanium which I once had on an M6. Pretty hard surface, as in removing all the stickers on the bottom cover with my fingernail, I left no scratches as others reported. Perhaps it "cured" over the two month wait? I show it here in comparison to my M8 which was chrome/ silver. In low light the grey is fairly dark and unobtrusive, which I prefer. I think it will be a popular color. The shutter control, frame selector, and the speed set dial are in the former silver color which makes a nice contrast I think. If you have silver/chrome lenses, the match with the controls will help make the lens color fit better with the camera I suspect. I show these cameras with the two lenses that in a sense are upgraded on the M9. Formerly, the 21mm elmarit was an effective 28mm lens on the M8 and I needed the WATE at 16mm to give me the 21 effective field of view on the M8 but with only f 4, not 2.8. Now I can use the WATE an get a FF field of view of 16 rather than 21. I can now shoot field of view of a 21 with my 21 at 2.8. I use this to rationalize the upgrade to the M9 since it also upgrades my lenses. Welcome, dear visitor! On the day of the announcement - when it became clear we would have black and silver grey colors - I asked for the silver. I stopped by my dealer an hour ago and he gave me the good news that my unit is shipping next week. It will be the first silver grey he has received. (He has received 3 black, I think). d2mini Posted November 14, 2009 Share #29 Posted November 14, 2009 I'm still torn on the grey. I like the contrast, but it's almost too much grey. I like the ratio of grey/black that's on the X1 more than the M9. I also liked the way the white text on the dials and stuff pop off the black vs the black type on the grey. And I like the heavier textured faux leather of the black M9. So i chose to order black. But I do still love seeing that contrast of the two-tone.
