off to (finally) take my 35 Lux in and, hopefully, they'll let me play with the M9...

 

interested to know how Discreet works with Soft mode -- does it recock when you move at all -- i.e., press down all the way or only when you let go?

 

It recocks when you let go (the same as in Discreet only)

The main difference is the shutter button feels a lot less 'notchy'.

 

Of course, it's much more suitable for manual mode. In 'A' mode, you need to meter and recompose a lot more using exposure lock on the shutter release and your lose that functionality in 'Soft' mode (but you can use the wheel on the back to do EV comp instead)

 

I hope they upgrade the firmware of the M8 to do this. It's a very nice feature.
