I ♥ my M9.

The fact is that ANY clear, product-wide manufacturing defect will require a recall regardless of warranty status. I am glad Leica made the offer before being sued but the fact remains that "loving an m9" at this point is like loving a serial killer.

I have a photo assignment in a week. About $35,000 in Leica gear and I can't use the camera AT ALL. That's pretty weak.

Get over it. Your body corrodes, you die. Your sensor corrodes, Leica replaces it for free.

With $35K in gear, you should have a backup. Any camera, film or digital- will lockup/have problems that are unanticipated.

I love my M8 too.

I loved mine too. Now I know it to be the single-most crappy camera I have EVER purchased. My sensor is corroded and WORTHLESS. I have NEVER seen ANYTHING like this on ANY digital camera. I know most of you posted before the corrosion issue came to light BUT there is NO love that can survive this problem. I PROMISE you ANY camera phone from 2005 can capture a FAR better image than an M9 with ANY Leica glass and a corroded sensor

Why don't you just have Leica replace the sensor?

Yes I love Leica's, but whatever the IQ @ the price Leica charge for any of the M range, any problems at all within say 2years, nothing but a New camera would satisfy my grief.

As we all learned yonks ago, spare batteries and even a spare/back up body is the way to go especially for a working professionals.

A professional with just One body and a handful of lenses is pushing his/her luck on each and every shoot..I would certainly ? their professionalism. In my humble opinion the sensor fiasco in which Leica let their heritage down & without doubt their patrons. It was a known problem, new cameras with new/modified sensors should have been obligatory. This repair for life is a smoke screen, who in their right mind would send a 5-6year old digital camera to have an ancient and already suspect sensor fitted! The upgrade/update offer is something only a rich f**l would consider. Offer me what I paid new for my camera which had a second rate sensor from day one. Offer a 3year warranty on the upgrade and Leica will be on my short list for a new M range model.. Should I need it and at Leica's prices I expect a Red Dot courier at my door within 24hrs with a fully tested replacement camera. Charge what you like but offer the service to back up the Marque..

An M Monochrom is an M9m to me. I called Kodak over 5 years ago and asked for one. They eventually agreed to do it.

Of course the camera on the right can be used for color and monochrome. I really should put the Summar on it to match the booklet. I was writing an article about Sonnars when I shot this.

I love it too.
