noah_addis Posted October 15, 2009 Share #1 Posted October 15, 2009 Advertisement (gone after registration) I have two M6ttl cameras (one .85 and one .72) that might be seeing more use in the near future. Is it still possible to have the viewfinders upgraded to the MP-style with less flare/whiteout problems? It's not a major problem I know, but I do prefer the finders on my MP bodies.. I also prefer the MP-style once-piece metal wind-on lever. For some reason it seems like with the two-piece metal + plastic lever I don't wind far enough and have to use a second stroke. With the one-piece metal one on the MP I don't have that issue. Yes, I know the easy answer is to trade the M6ttls for MPs, but that would be costly. Anyone know if these upgrades are possible and if so, is it best to go to Leica NJ or elsewhere? And any ideas of how much they would cost?

Riccis Posted October 15, 2009 Share #3 Posted October 15, 2009 Noah: Yes, you can do all that. I also prefer the MP style winder better than the M6/M7. I would send it to NJ or Solms... Good to hear you're still shooting film Cheers,

Good to hear you're still shooting film Cheers, Yeah I've realized that I'm doing fewer and fewer deadline assignments (which is good since I prefer more in-depth work). And I've had a few wedding clients ask for film. So yeah, I'm definitely thinking about shooting more film:D
Rolo Posted October 15, 2009 Share #5 Posted October 15, 2009 Noah, I believe the winder is an easy fix. Best repair guy in the UK quoted me £30 for the winder, fitting free. I just enquired about a change from 0.72x to 0.85x on one of my film M's and told by Leica Uk that it is cost prohibitive. Now available al la carte or used. Interested to see you blowing the dust off your film M's. No more M9 intentions ? Riccis, I heard you're back shooting film only and the M9 is gone. Any particular reason for that ? edit - Noah, emails crossed.
peter_n Posted October 15, 2009 Share #6 Posted October 15, 2009 Noah, both Don Goldberg and Sherry Krauter do the VF upgrade at less cost than Leica NJ, I think the last I read was around $250 per. Don has done repairs for me and he's wonderful but he's drowning in work, the backlog is something like 200 items. I've never used Sherry but those who have speak very highly of her and her turnaround is around 3 weeks. I've taken to using Steve Choi in LA and like him a lot - very thorough. You might want to check him out too.

Now available al la carte or used. I'm not looking to switch magnifications, I currently have one M6 with .72 and one with .85 and I want them both to stay. I'm looking for the fix that reduces flare/whiteout of the RF patch. Interested to see you blowing the dust off your film M's. No more M9 intentions ? Yes, I sold my M8s so I need something to shoot with! No comment on the M9 yet:cool:
charlesh Posted October 15, 2009 Share #8 Posted October 15, 2009 I'll add a plus for Sherry Krauter, as well. Had a problem with my rewind lever, sent it to her also asking her to do a CLA. She fixed the problem promptly, didn't do the CLA because she said it wasn't needed yet ... saved me some $$$, obviously.
think Posted October 15, 2009 Share #9 Posted October 15, 2009 If you need them quickly Sherry would be your best bet. She's quick with lens CLA's...no knock on Don; he's just buried. You've the same 2 TTL's as I do and I keep intending to send the .85 in for the MP update. It seems more prone to white out than the other.
Riccis Posted October 15, 2009 Share #10 Posted October 15, 2009 Riccis, I heard you're back shooting film only and the M9 is gone. Any particular reason for that ? Man, internet rumors are fierce ... Back when everybody was denying the existence of the upcoming M9 and after witnessing its fantastic image quality, I knew that this will be the camera to use for low light color work but it will not replace my film Ms (specially for B&W and outdoor color) since this is an integral part of my brand and what the type of client that commissions me to shoot their weddings demand. The M9 will be used for about 10% of my work (mainly low light color). Cheers,
