Guest guy_mancuso Posted November 25, 2006 Share #2 Posted November 25, 2006 Now watch this 1 Leica R9profile in C1 2 Jamie's Profile that he uses without the filter but look here Welcome, dear visitor! olaff Posted November 25, 2006 Share #3 Posted November 25, 2006 moin (hallo) guy, M8 green looks more realistik to me, but how is it in reality? same with the differenzes on that magenta shirt... friedrich
Guest guy_mancuso Posted November 25, 2006 Share #4 Posted November 25, 2006 Now Jamies is not working because it is not profiled for the IR cut filter , so we can eliminate that but the M8 with the IR filter has a overall yellow /cyan cast , But the RD1s and the Leica R9 profile bring back the blue sky very well and the skin tones are getting a little more neutral. I think folks should try this on a couple images and see what you think. Now I have said all along and Sean has too we need a new profile with the IR filters but in the mean time this maybe not to bad to try out and see. The never ending battle for color management and you guys thought digital was easy stuff:D
Guest guy_mancuso Posted November 25, 2006 Share #5 Posted November 25, 2006 Reality is they have purple on . The blue sky is better in the RD1s and R9, Now I just think maybe a touch to yellow in the M8 , that is the one that is bugging me to tame down some
Guest guy_mancuso Posted November 25, 2006 Share #6 Posted November 25, 2006 Now went back to the M8 profile and pulled the saturation slider down -20 and it looks pretty good. Off to bed and will try some more of this tomorrow but maybe some folks can play around a little and see if this is working Welcome, dear visitor! Guest guy_mancuso Posted November 25, 2006 Share #8 Posted November 25, 2006 Yes the do , I think the RD1s maybe the one and add just a touch of saturation. I added 10 point here on the RD1s Welcome, dear visitor! As registered member you'd see an image here… Simply register for free here – We are always happy to welcome new members! Asher Kelman Posted November 25, 2006 Share #9 Posted November 25, 2006 Guy, This shows how tough it can be to do homework! How close are the colors of the clothes? Asher http://www.openphotographyforums.com
olaff Posted November 25, 2006 Share #10 Posted November 25, 2006 oh sorry (second/differences/realistic aso...) that last one looks more purple to me. saturation slider down -20 seems to be a very good idea in my eyes, but thats a general problem elswhere. osera Posted November 25, 2006 Share #11 Posted November 25, 2006 Interesting comparison here, Guy. Another good example of the complex "art" of profile making. Kind of like taking the same scene with several different film types. On my screen here, I think I prefer the skin tones in the slightly desaturated M8 profile on this image, but I'd sure like to see more. In a portrait like this I can see room for several artistic interpretations. I myself am a bit (too much of) a tweaker in C1, depending on the image series. Even with the DMR profile, which is pretty good, I will play around slightly with the color. By the way, did your clients know about the M8's IR issue when they picked out all those shades of magenta and purple to wear, just to mess with you??? Guest guy_mancuso Posted November 25, 2006 Share #12 Posted November 25, 2006 Yes I told them to wear magenta Here is one from Raw Developer.Need to play with this program, which has some great controls Welcome, dear visitor! Samir Jahjah Posted November 25, 2006 Share #13 Posted November 25, 2006 Yes I told them to wear magenta Here is one from Raw Developer.Need to play with this program, which has some great controls RAW developer is an excellent converter. This picture look very promising: did you use some specific profile or just the standard one? Did you try to convert a non-filtered leica image that had some magenta cast on it? Another interesting software is lightzone 2. I use it all the time. Since I don t have a M8 and cannot check them with that camera. You can get a fully operational Demo of Lightzone 2 which accepts DNG file and I guess Leica M8. Enjoy and keep us posted. Guest guy_mancuso Posted November 25, 2006 Share #14 Posted November 25, 2006 This one was out of raw dev M8 profile , I did lower the saturation just a little but that was it. I may run out and shoot some shots of a little cowboy town after another family pic. Not a big fan of this type of work but there friends so what are you going to do. More testing subject:D :D
Jack_Flesher Posted November 25, 2006 Share #15 Posted November 25, 2006 Guy: Were the baby's velvet top and the grand-ma's jacket both maroon or were they black? How about the squares on the grand-dad's sweater -- looks like they might have been a combo of maroon and black or dark gray. Without knowing the answer, it looks to me like if those were all maroon, the R9 profile seems decent with a saturation tweak. If those were all blacks then Jamie's is the only one even close, but needs added saturation, a touch of yellow and maybe a little less cyan. Tough call without being at your monitor with you... Guest guy_mancuso Posted November 25, 2006 Share #16 Posted November 25, 2006 Yea I know they all wore purple outfits so the colors are pretty accurate on that with the M8 profile and even the R9 so yes there really is not any IR stuff going on since I had the filter on. More looking at sky and skin tones here but I may find a shot that is easier to see what may work. I just shot a family in white so that would be better to judge
carstenw Posted November 25, 2006 Share #17 Posted November 25, 2006 Guy, you "told them to wear magenta"? Are they customers or family?
Guest guy_mancuso Posted November 25, 2006 Share #18 Posted November 25, 2006 Customers , all I told them was to avoid white. LOL Seriously I hate to see if i shot this without the filter , God knows what would have happened . Were talking real purple color here , like a NBA purple
Jack_Flesher Posted November 25, 2006 Share #19 Posted November 25, 2006 IMO only, but ignoring the clothing and looking at sky, skin and the greens and yellows in the cacti, none of them are very good on all counts. Raw developer conversion is probably the best compromise, but skin is too yellow and sky is too cyan.
chuckpjones Posted November 25, 2006 Share #20 Posted November 25, 2006 IMO only, but ignoring the clothing and looking at sky, skin and the greens and yellows in the cacti, none of them are very good on all counts. Raw developer conversion is probably the best compromise, but skin is too yellow and sky is too cyan. I'm 100% with you Jack. The RAW Developer conversion is the best, but sky & skin are off. Yellow & Cyan in the sky, and yellow in the flesh tones....
