Hello Ken,

Lightroom only supports DNG, PSD, TIFF and JPEG formats. No native proprietary RAW flavours.

Batch processing in ACR to produce DNGs, before importing the newly processed DNGs, is the only way to get proprietary RAW format images into Lightroom.

cheers,

Douglas

So how come I can see and manipulate RAW files from my Canon DSLRs? Also RAW files from my Panasonic LX2.

It supports all the cameras that are supported in ACR.

Your question has been answered twice now Ken. A third time isn't really necessary, is it?

I apologize for having sent a duplicate question in error... I had meant to simply send the "thank you" message which you also received.

Update: I contacted Adobe and submitted a formal request for Adobe to include the DL4codex in subsequent updates. Adobe urged more folk to ask for this; the more likely it will be happen. The site is Adobe - Feature Request/Bug Report Form if anyone is inclined to make suggestions.

I also spoke with LeicaUSA this morning and sent a similar request via email to Dave Ewell who stated he would forward it on to Leica Germany who is responsible for such a decision. If I get a reply I will pass it along.

Hi Steve,

Canon uses the openly published TIF file format for it's RAW files, but with a different extension and custome file header information.

Adobe owns the TIF format but has long made it publicly documented and available to others to enable continued use and compatibility by many software vendors. They are doing the same with PDF and DNG.

For long term archiving, such a publicly specified and documented file format like DNG is a safe bet when companies are failing and merging as they have been over the last few years. Proprietary file formats, including RAW ones are basically a secret sauce recipe.

I hope that helps.

cheers,

Douglas

As for Digilux3 and PanasonicL1,I wonder if both of them have the same function on working?

To compare the price between themfind that the price of Panasonic L1 is equal to the price of lens of Digilux3,so the body of Digilux3 is much expensive .
