Can magnets harm the M8 or the lenses ?

I had exactly the same thought the other day; for my birthday I was given a beautiful soft leather sling bag for my camera with 2 magnetic clasps in front and I was wondering about the effect of the magnets on the camera.

Question was answered as follows:

My wife's birthday is a week after mine, I bought her a D-Lux4 Safari which comes with a small sling case with a rather large horizontal magnetic clip on the front. I suppose that Leica/Panasonic would have already thought about that before putting this kit together. Would they??

Magnets & magnetic fields influence ferromagnetic materials (iron, nickel and a few others) but do not influence anything else - or at least not that you would notice.

The electronic and lens side of things should be just fine.

Also with an EMP a Leica stands a better chance than most electronic stuff to survive as it is cased in metal, so you can still take pics, but your PC or Mac will be fried:D

After an EMP, likely all of the pictures you would take with your M8 would suffer from magenta skin tone problems again. What a drag, I finally have a LR profile I like, but after an EMP I'd have to start all over again. Probably, would have to piggyback a radiation filter over the IR filter as well.

EMP stands for an Electromagnetic Pulse. In the context of this thread, the one produced by an atomic explosion. Ducking would be a very good idea! (Provided you have a shielded bunker to duck into of course.)

Nicole... Great we have you as a resident EMP expert!
