Purple fringing and the 24/1.4

In a picture I took when I was trying the lens out, I noticed two things. Firstly that Capture One does a much better job at reducing purple fringing than LR does and secondly, even at f/8 I noticed fringing near the edges of the frame.

The following have only been opened in LR and not had any adjustments made.

Here is the full picture:

And three crops (the fringing is easier to see if you save and look at 200-300%. However it is very easy to see at 50-100% in the full frame).

Around trees, roofline, windows and pipe:

Around chimney, aerial and windows:

Around windows:

Is this an expected level of purple fringing at f/8 towards the edge of the frame for this type of lens? Any opinions will be gratefully received.

Thanks for your reply Ian. The C1 conversions still have the fringing but it is less noticeable, albeit still there.

Here is the worst area shown in the crops above but from a crop of a C1 processed picture (again with no adjustments made):

Less evident than is this one from LR:

LR also did something crazy to the window the last picture - it seems to draw these odd patterns on pictures every now and then.

Simon,

That looks like LR 2.5 on a Mac with a G4 or G5 processor - if so, its a known bug. Only way round it to go back to 2.4

Thanks Sandy - you are correct it is LR 2.5 on a Mac G5. However, I always use C1 so it won't be an issue for me.

I posted these pictures having processed the DNG is LR as that is the raw processor that Leica supply with the M9.
