mby Posted October 13, 2009 Share #1 Â Posted October 13, 2009 Advertisement (gone after registration) Went through Kodak's sensor products site (Kodak Image Sensor Solutions - Full Frame CCD) where you can download the specs of both M8's and S2's sensors, but not M9's (yet?). Â Upon checking with Kodak, I was told to directly work with the camera manufacturer, but Leica CS keeps mum at the moment. Â Anybody had better success? Â Thanks and best regards, Michael

Recall that it was pretty much tweaked to death by Leica.
mjh Posted October 13, 2009 Share #3  Posted October 13, 2009 The chip listed in the Kodak webpage is not 100% the one in the M9. Recall that it was pretty much tweaked to death by Leica. The point is that it isn’t listed at all.  Kodak did publish the specs of the KAF-10500 as used in the M8, even when that sensor never found a use in any other camera (and wasn’t likely to, given the extent to which it was geared towards the M8). arthury Posted October 14, 2009 Share #4 Â Posted October 14, 2009 In the discontinued catalog, there's something similar ... probably the ancestor of the one in the M9. Â Kodak Image Sensor Solutions - Discontinued Products

mby Posted October 14, 2009 Author Share #6  Posted October 14, 2009 A little blog info on the M9 sensor KAF-18500  PluggedIn - World-Class  Dear 2Bébèrt,  This we know of (http://www.l-camera-forum.com/leica-forum/leica-m8-forum/97742-kodak-pr-leica-m9-its-way.html#post1027807); what I'm interested are the hard specs from Kodak for the current KAF-18500. Unfortunately, Kodak doesn't provide them (yet?)...  Best regards, Michael

The specification for the S2 sensor is not there. It's possible that these sensors, as Michael say, are so tailored to Leica's requirements that they do not wish the specifications to be published for people like us to pore over - a bit like the firmware now being encrypted. 2Bébèrt Posted October 14, 2009 Share #8  Posted October 14, 2009 That's a probable cause Mark.  btw Mark, I also want to say thank you for saving my death by drowning M8. He was revived with the knowledge of your anatomy course.
ho_co Posted October 14, 2009 Share #9 Â Posted October 14, 2009 Hey, guys! Leica has decided to keep these sensors proprietary. You won't find their specs without getting them from Leica, as Kodak told mby. Â Look, Leica and Kodak worked to get this sensor for the M9, right? Now you expect them to tell Kodak, 'go ahead and offer it for sale to Zeiss and Nikon and any other comers'? Â I was more surprised that Leica didn't keep the M8 sensor proprietary. Now you expect them to tell Kodak, 'go ahead and offer it for sale to Zeiss and Nikon and any other comers'?  I was more surprised that Leica didn't keep the M8 sensor proprietary.  Dear Howard,  I don't expect Leica to push Kodak to sell KAF-18500 to either Zeiss or Nikon, that#s none of my business; what I'm hoping(!) for is getting the same level of information on M9's sensor as what was made available for M8's - and before this thread drifts down that route: I do acknowledge that I do not have a right to get it...  Best, Michael
