Now I know that most of the BW Filters are very hard to get. Now I found some, but I'm not really sure if it's the right filter.

I Found the "B&W UV-Filter-IR Digital (486) 49 ES " is this the right Filter for the leica 75/2 (which states Filter E49)

and is the "B&W UV-IR Digital (486) 55" the right Filter for my leica 21/2,8 (which is the E55) ?

thanks for the help

Ok one more question what exactly is the freaking diffrence between

the "486 UV-IR-Cut-Filter Slim-Fassung 49 mm" ,

the "486 UV-IR-Cut-Filter 49 mm" and

the "B&W UV-Filter-IR Digital (486) 49 ES"?

thanks again

You probably mean "B + W ", the brand, not "B&W", ie black and white, which is another matter entirely.

I don't think Leica would venture into recommending any one brand. Sepcifications, size, filter thread, yes. Company, no.

Chris,

The normal one is the one we are all getting which is the 486 UV-IR cult filter that is multi-coated in the F-Pro mount which is the standard thickness. (Thickness being the thickness of the mount and not the glass.) This version has a front thread mount in case you need to screw anything to it, like a screw mount hood.

The slim version is the same thing, only in a thinner mount. By thinner, it means that the forward thread is eliminated from the face of the filter mount.

The "digital" version is once again the same filter, but in a mount which is silver in color.

Best,

Ray

Christopher--you're right about the name; stick to your guns! :)

The 'slim' version of a filter means that it does not have front threads and so can't accept other filters or a hood. It's designed for the case of a wide angle lens where the thickness of the filter mount might cause vignetting.

Leica has always distinguished their screw-in filters (E55 for example) from their press-on filters (A36 for example).

So when Leica says E55, it's the same as 55mm from other vendors.

I believe that when B+W says ES, it means 'screw-in, standard.' And that should be the same as without the designation.

So as noted above: The filters you found are indeed the correct ones for the lenses you mention.

Some manufacturers distinguish between fine-pitch thread as in 36F, and medium-pitch thread as in 55M. But that is unnecessary since all filters smaller than a certain size use a 0.5mm pitch thread, and larger ones use a 0.75mm thread.
