It is great to see that this camera is still around and will be put to use again shortly. We had some discussions here lately about how Leicas were traded with occupying forces, such as the US Army, after WWII. In this case, the camera was buried for 6 months to avoid it being taken by occupation forces. It is still around and it has great significance and provenance for the current owner. https://kosmofoto.com/2020/02/german-leica-buried-ww2/ William

Hi, I'm new poster to this amazing forum after being Leica C&P (Collector&Photographer) over 18 years and currently 'decide' to return in film world. In the last week, I acquired this Leica Standard in a trusted Germany based dealer, it's No. 105901, one of first 5000 production when Leica introduced Model E in 1932. As its S/N closed to end of 106000, I believe it was manufactured by Leica in late 1933. Overall condition fare good considering its age of 88 elder than my father, I'm quite satisfied. To my knowledge, I understood all Leica Standard(model E) were no lugs except some late 40' model using iiic body. HOWEVER, it's too odds that my first-batch-Leica Standard was WITH lugs, I checked carefully, and quite sure both lugs not 'upgraded' later as aging abrasion 100% matched to body elsewhere. Can I get any advice if this Leica Standard is true? How and why it came with original lugs?

Hello, I'm looking at a pretty molested example of a Standardized Leica I and I would like to perform some rough cleaning of the shutter mechanism. I removed the exposure time knob with no issues, but I'm wondering how to remove the cover over the mechanism on the top plate. It looks like my unit was repainted at some point and this makes the top plate and the cover pretty much sticking together. Should this cover unscrew? Is it just pressed in? Any good advice in this case? Thanks a lot for your help! Marcin
