I shot this in Beijing in 1998 using a Leica M6 and 50mm Summicron f2 lens. The film was Tri-X. I have just got around to scanning it as part of my efforts to digitise many years of film images. I guess these streets have disappeared now since the rebuilding for the Olympics. I have just started shooting film again with a M7!

Leica MP w/50mm Summicron on Ilford FP 4+ in HC 110 H for 7.75mins at 20 C A woman shooting heroin on the sidewalk in Pioneer Square, Seattle. This is one of those shots that I am always torn as to shoot or walk on by. Street photography is new to me, really just began when I moved to Seattle and worked in a downtown office. I walk at lunch time to get out in the world away from A/C and artificial light. In three years this is one of the most depressing things I've come across, a woman shooting heroin in the middle of the day in public.

I took this on a visit to the Forbidden City in Beijing in 1998 and this is a scan from the original Velvia transparency. I used a Leica M6 back then, and this was probably taken with the 50mm Summicron f2 but I have no exposure details. It forms part of a gallery of Beijing images in a gallery which I am gradually adding to and can be viewed at http://archive.gwpics.com/gallery/Beijing-1998/G00001zr0M27_Rk4 Thanks for looking. Gerry

Hello Everyone, First time post to this great forum I've lurked a while, obsessed about this and that, but finally decided to pull the trigger and bought my first L camera, a nice (metered) MP of which I am the second owner. I'm looking for a 50mm Summicron and see that the newest body style, the one with the built-in hood, has a weight difference when choosing chrome or black and that it's due to the brass body of the chrome lens. I don't see any information available regarding the older, tabbed version with the same optics. I see that the lens as a whole weighs less and is a little smaller physically, but nothing on wether the black is lighter than the chrome body. Is this tabbed version, in chrome, also made of brass? Is there a difference in weight? If there is I guess it might not be worth mentioning, but it made me question the body composition, wondering if the chrome lens is anodized aluminum or brass. Any info appreciated. To be sure, I'm talking about the lens version in this photo. Thanks so much.
