roguewave Posted February 16, 2011 Share #4 Posted February 16, 2011 Jack, looking forward to seeing your panorama. The S2 is an amazing tool. Had the pleasure of using in at the roll out in NYC. It's a pity that Leica hasn't sponsored a website devoted to to the S2. Much enjoyed that first frame in the Online Photographer.
JMacD Posted February 16, 2011 Author Share #5 Posted February 16, 2011 Ben, Here is the panorama you wanted to see. On the web, one can not realize the potential size of this image. It is made up of five S2 35mm vertical images merged in CS5. The full file is 12741 x 7230. I am hoping the Packers might have some use for it as a wall decoration in Lambeau Field. If they do, I will do some more post work on the image. Without the huge HD video board above the field, the shot would not have worked as well. This was exactly the very large shot I had visualized well before going to the game. I considered using a 16mm on a M9, which would have avoided the need to merge, and eliminated some distortion, but I wanted the extra resolution for possible use as "wallpaper". I mainly shot with the S 35mm to show the HD video board above the playing field. I borrowed a friend's S 180 for some action shots, but needed to be closer to the action for them to work well. Interestingly, I could get off about three shots a play, not as useful as 10 shots a second. But I purchased the S2 for landscape and architecture, not sports. I guess this shot is all three? However, I have found the S2 more versatile than I ever expected for even every day shots as well as portrait and macro. Bringing in a S2 worked very well, not so easy with other MF systems, since they requested that a fan only bring in a "small camera", and no lens over 6 inches. roguewave Posted February 20, 2011 Share #7 Posted February 20, 2011 Advertisement (gone after registration) Jack, very impressive. I'm glad to see someone with all you have accomplished in the corporate world put the energy in a different creative vein. Your work in the Milwaukee Museum is also very nice. Have you done any street portraits with the S2? I've seen only a few people's work in that regard & quite honestly, I don't think anyone's really mined that field yet. I personally think the S2 is an amazing portrait tool. It's really about the size & weight of my R8/DMR with an 80 Summilux, which is my favorite kit for street portraits. I'm hopeful Leica will take the technology and apply it to a wider audience in the future. Keep posting your work. There's really a dearth of imaginative S2 images. I think you have made a very good decision with your gear & it's use. All the best.
