vic vic Posted July 17, 2007 Author Share #8 Posted July 17, 2007 kurt martin vieri..... thanks for your words...... ) thanks odd....... those pics are not scans from the prints.........now i dont have the prints here anymore...... of course the prints look much stronger and with greater imapct than film scans and simulations ........ the paper - ilford mgw24k (the wormtone multigrade semi-matt) of 30x40cm mostly...... dont know how much people concder this paper as good lith process paper, but i think it is realy great in lith - partly because of its beauty partly beacause of multigrade characteristics ........ developer is fotospeed lith at moderate delutions ...... the image is a kind of yelow/green gritty mixed with nice creamy look but not too smooth cream......... processed, stop, fix, wash then in 3-pack fotospeed sepia toner that is actually two bath solution.... one bleach and the other redevlops the image (the third bottle is an addative to control the intensity of sepia strenght - weak makes yellow, strong makes dark brown)....... and then wash of course...... Photoskeptic Posted July 18, 2007 Share #12 Posted July 18, 2007 Great shots, super tonality, nice film noir quality. In short, a photographic turn-on. Head and shoulders above the nudes w/camera garbage (my opinion).

ron110n Posted July 21, 2007 Share #17 Posted July 21, 2007 Hi Vic, I was wondering if you ever tried the same process in MF. Of course the grain will be finer, but grain is subjective. It depends on the artist behind the camera how he wanted it. The reason why I'm asking is... I upgraded from film to "film again". I recently plunged to a 2nd MF gear, a Rolleiflex 6008i to compliment my Rollei TLR and Leica M's. Or maybe the 6000i will compliment more on the M7 beause of aperture priority. 12 shots on a 6x6 is fine with me since I only load 15 shots (from bulk loader) on 35mm for my M. What I like about MF is you really see the effect of exotic developers and developing process. Oh about enrollment... believe it or not, after all those years of shooting films... "I'm still learning". I guess it's a film thing, "the possibilities are never ending". But of course my digital gear relieved the Polaroid backs. Best -Ron BTW Vic, I wanna dust-off my Omega B-22 ang go back to "traditional printing". I'm waiting for your website to finish.
Artichoke Posted July 22, 2007 Share #18 Posted July 22, 2007 happily visiting your excellent web pages many fine photographs with my favorites being "metrosexual" & the fine "night chronology" your BW photographs are outstanding I also read your commentaries with great interest ...clearly you have a passion (and great talent) for photography, but I do not understand, even after reading your arguments, why you hold those of us who shoot digital in such disdain I suspect much of your feelings come as a reaction to the overwhelming tide of digital photography discussion (IMHO) on the Internet, which has radically & irrevocably changed photography's place in the arts Susan Sontag's series of essays "On Photography" makes the point that of all the arts, photography is the most democratic ...this was written in 1977 and clearly the advent of digital photography has radically furthered this notion I am by no means diminishing the virtues of analog photography ...I learned photography using film and understand the wonder of seeing the chemicals do their magic in a darkroom indeed I measure the excellence of a digital camera by how film like its output looks ...some of the more advanced digital cameras (like the DMR, M8 or Fujifilm S3/S5) produce files that are very analog in their look the convenience of digital photography is difficult to deny ...I feel the notion that one must suffer for one's art is now outdated ...in addition the ability to shoot without a 36 roll of film penalty does transform technique in ways hard to fathom ...I know you find this multiple capture technique an anathema, but it does offer undeniable advantages ...a fleeting expression, a bird flying into the frame, a slightly different angle or bit of light can be captured, compared & exploited only if the photographer has the luxury of choosing between the many exposures of the same subject that the economics of digital capture promotes yes I do think photographic light can be captured in 01010101010101010101010101 after all physics tells us light is quantal in nature and in a way digital capture is closer to the way light behaves than translating light energy into the chemical reactions of chemicals impregnated on film digital light capture systems have transformed the photographic world & are here to stay ...the products of digital photography have their worth (indeed there are some fine nudes produced by digital) and the romance of film does not seem worth the bother for many serious about photography ...I respect your craft and art, but I disagree with your contention that digital is somehow less "pure" than using film or that those of us shooting digital are "masses of sheeps"
vic vic Posted July 22, 2007 Author Share #19 Posted July 22, 2007 hi ron.... ya of course it works in all formats .. u make enlargement very much like normal silver print enlarged (no need for contact printing with lith). the grain in lith print is not the attribute of the film u use.. it is the attribute of the paper and lith developer reaction. in fact, i can make fuji acros 4x5" grainy print on lith and on contrary, smooth and creamy 35mm format...... it is mainly about the paper type that u use and the way u use the developer........ but with it, i have to say that there is some differance between the 35mm and medium/large formats. the bigger formats have more intencity than small 35 format, and it especially comes into play when enlarged to bigger sizes (beyound 30x40cm/12x16"). the differances are not analogues to normal silver enlargement though........ those are different things a little bit - many of the "thinking patterns" from the normal silver printing should be a little bit forgoten when u work with lith... for example...... if u take example of the first four pictures from here : shakespearian sonatas woman ... those are fotospeed lith papers....... this paper is super good for lith (although sometimes it may get too much decorative and kitsch in my taste)... it has great creamy look in various tones (pink, yellow, green) and great paper grain that is developed and accantruted in lower tones.... when u r "brave" enough to keep on developing it beyound the "suposed normal look", then u will see how fotospeed paper starts to put a "net of grain" over the whole paper. u can even see the direction of my agitation of the tray there..... on contrary, paper like ilford warmtone semi-matt, adds grain to the cremy (yellow/green) gradually and though it adds density to the base tones ...... it is a very different behaviour from fotospeed paper...... (and art classic at some edxtenet too if the developer is deluted/exusted and the film is of low/moderate contrast) and ya...... this lith processes works equally great for any foramat.... hahah........ ya of course we always learn new stuff and develop ourselve on and on...... it is fun, and it is productive and enlightening...... ) the rollei 6008integral is prbably the best medium format .. it is rollei build quality (which is at least as good as the leica, u must know it with your rollei tlr)...... and the additional lineup of schneider lenses is great........ besides the legendary plannar zeiss 80mm (like summicron50 on leica) there is another amazing lens for 6008 - the planar 110/f2.... see it as analogues to summilux 75mm in leica...... amazing lens, but make sure u like it and need it in case of concidering to get one..... ) while rolleiflex tlr is a camera of inspiration, the 6008 is a woring machine in my opinion...... do u have more or less clear idea why u want it ? i dont say that it is a bad camera to own and make photos (it is amazing camera) , but , if u want a real joy of photography maybe concider adding large format ?...... just some thought.. i dont really know why and how much u want to have rollei6008........ the 6000i ? which one is it? it is not sl66 that i know, something between the old and the new ? or entery level current 6000system ?
