peterv Posted June 16, 2007 Share #1 Posted June 16, 2007 Advertisement (gone after registration) Hi all, bought a Made In The USSR Jupiter 85mm f2.0. Here's a portrait of my wife @f2,8.5 1/180 160 ISO on M8, no IR-filter. In-camera jpg; tried all C1 profiles, but this - though too red - looked best... Cheers, Peter

LichMD Posted June 16, 2007 Share #2 Posted June 16, 2007 Peter, Lovely portrait of your wife. I hope you don't mind, but I came up with this in Aperture. A little contrast and exposure adjustments.
azzo Posted June 16, 2007 Share #3 Posted June 16, 2007 A lovely capture of your wife Peter. If you've some time, try adding some Black in PS Levels to darken slightly. Just a suggestion. edit..ooops, I see that it's been done...sorry ! Azzo
telewatt Posted June 16, 2007 Share #4 Posted June 16, 2007 I would first look at the "tone-diagramm"...there is missing the "shadows"..so the contrast ist to low... I did not changed the caracter of the picture, but is different...do you like it?.. regards, Jan
vic vic Posted June 16, 2007 Share #5 Posted June 16, 2007 peter... the lens is old type, and flaring alot. one thing is to try to balance in the histogram and gradation curves, and bring to what may look as ore or less normal exposure/density other way.. to use the flare in more creative way. maybe even wash the photos a little. see it as creative thing to use such lens
wda Posted June 16, 2007 Share #6 Posted June 16, 2007 Yes, flare is evident and not unexpected in an old lens. However this can add a fairy tale look to a female portrait. I agree further work in PS would give you some interesting alternatives. David
peterv Posted June 16, 2007 Author Share #7 Posted June 16, 2007 Advertisement (gone after registration) Thanks for looking and processing to improve the picture. I bought the lens because I like the low contrast and the flare. I used to work with Zeiss a lot and this Jupiter, though a 'copy' is not quite as contrasty as the Zeiss lenses. The harshness of the Zeiss lenses started to irritate me, especially with 'people' photo's. Now, you see, the high contrast, the 'correct' curve and well balanced exposure is not what I'm looking for... Right now I'm after the fairy tale look... Here's another Jupiter example: Same day, different location. Cheers and thanks, Peter
