Do you also use it with M lenses? Ece Hi Ece, Thanks. I like it a lot and yes I do. Here is a shot in which I tried to find out how good the OM-D E-M5's five-axis In-Body-Image-Stabilization IBIS technology really is. Welcome, dear visitor! As registered member you'd see an image here… Simply register for free here – We are always happy to welcome new members! Handheld, 1/3s, OOC JPG, shot with Leica WATE 16-18-21/4 M lens. Of course, the OMD offers magnification in its EVF that I use at 120 Hz. But it doesn't come with pre-programmed focus peaking. However, one can set it up so that it does focus peaking. Amin, over at getdpi.com, explained how to do that, namely The GetDPI Photography Forums - View Single Post - State of mFT today , quote: " You can use one of the art filters to do focus peaking on the OMD. Here are the steps: 1) Change the mode dial on the E-M5 to "A" 2) Menu > Shooting Menu 1: set the "Picture Mode" to "ART 11 Key Line" (press right and choose Filter II). You may need to repeat this step twice to get the art filter setting to stick. 3) Optional step if you want magnified view during focus peaking: Menu > Shooting Menu 1 > Set "Digital Tele-converter" to "On" 4) Menu > Shooting Menu 1: select "Reset/Myset", then select "Myset1" and choose "Set" 5) Menu > Custom Menu B: select "Button Function", then select "Fn1 Function" and choose "My1" 6) Menu > Shooting Menu 1: set the "Picture Mode" to "Natural" (or whatever you started out with) 7) Menu > Shooting Menu 1 > Set "Digital Tele-converter" back to "Off" if you set it to "On" in Step 3 above At this point, you'll have the "Key Line" art filter, which acts like a form of focus peaking, assigned to the Fn1 button. You can hold down the button while focusing for a kind of "on demand" focus peaking and then release the button before you shoot so that the art filter doesn't affect the captured image itself. allamande Posted February 28, 2013 Share #6 Posted February 28, 2013 K.-H., Thanks so much for this detailed and most informative response to my question (I bookmarked it already!). I've been looking at the reviews and samples and came close to buying the OM (to use with my M lenses), but then Sean Read's extensive review and discussion (especially on the compatibility of RF lenses with the OM) stopped me on my tracks. Your example here is fantastic and quite convincing! Thanks again. Much appreciate it. Ece
k-hawinkler Posted February 28, 2013 Author Share #7 Posted February 28, 2013 Advertisement (gone after registration) Ece, Thanks. I need to do some more work before I really know which Leica lenses work well with the OMD. The WATE is an amazing lens that exhibits no red edge to speak of on the NEXs either. For the 21, 24 (I don't own), 28, and 35 mm Leica lenses I need to take some shots to find out whether red edge is a problem. For lenses, normal to tele, there is no issue I am aware of. Iduna Posted March 1, 2013 Share #8 Posted March 1, 2013 K.-H., a very nice shot indeed. I followed your discussion with Ece with much interest. I hope that your experiment to find out the best Leica lenses for your OM-D combo will be followod by pleasant results.
