wda Posted February 3, 2014 Share #2 Posted February 3, 2014 As a purely technical exercise, this is quite impressive for a non-specialist video camera. Video production brings together several highly demanding and often conflicting creative disciplines. You didn't say who the target audience is; but the video doesn't quite succeed with the storytelling element for me, so I judge it purely on camera work which, for a quickie, is remarkably good. Thanks Wda. The vid is nothing but a teaser directed to Elle magazine readers. It's purpose is just to announce that the coming issue is about to hit libraries and book stores... In earlier teasers, I would show the actual layouts being printed or edited, or a backstage movie of one of the fashion photo shoots...this time, I had the XVario with me and thought that testing it's B&W video the way I did could be different and unexpected for our readers. euston Posted February 3, 2014 Share #4 Posted February 3, 2014 Impressive picture quality and I enjoyed the rhythms you created with the editing.
Runningmatt Posted February 4, 2014 Share #5 Posted February 4, 2014 Very impressive quality from the X Vario. Great, edgy production too… reminds me of some scenes from the original Texas Chainsaw Masacre. If you haven't seen it, watch it and you will see exactly what I mean
papimuzo Posted February 4, 2014 Share #6 Posted February 4, 2014 Impressive results, from this simple and light camera! How did you get the sounds? From the integrated microphones??? Thanks for sharing.
XVarior Posted February 4, 2014 Author Share #7 Posted February 4, 2014 Advertisement (gone after registration) Impressive results, from this simple and light camera! How did you get the sounds? From the integrated microphones???Thanks for sharing. Yes, everything is OOC straight from camera to Final Cut Pro X then to youtube. not a single adjustment to the image or sound. by the way, I was intrigued by the built in microphone to cope with the high pitch sounds of the printing machines. JOM51 Posted February 4, 2014 Share #9 Posted February 4, 2014 I have my X Vario a couple of weeks, shooting mostly DNG. I just started trying the B&W OOC for pictures. Your short film shows me that I should have a go on B&W for video. Thank you! Incredible video quality and sound.
rjans Posted February 4, 2014 Share #10 Posted February 4, 2014 Thanks for posting this excellent video. I wanted to ask through the forum about the video performance of the X Vario. But now I have seen. Makes it more difficult for me to decide if I take my HD camcorder or just the X Vario on my next holiday. Best
peterv Posted February 4, 2014 Share #11 Posted February 4, 2014 Thanks for sharing, I liked your shots and rythm in your editing. The only thing I disliked is that you crossed the line several times. I'm really sensitive to that and I'm still a bit dizzy as I write this. Anyway, I liked the B&W out of the Vario X a lot! XVarior Posted February 4, 2014 Author Share #12 Posted February 4, 2014 Crossed the line several times! That was the idea, but it couldn't do it properly as I was forced to shoot almost from one side of the printers. I remember being able to shoot one shot crossing the line, did you find more? peterv Posted February 4, 2014 Share #13 Posted February 4, 2014 I didn't count, but it felt like more than once. Maybe it was the machines moving in the opposite direction. Never mind, it's a nice video!
Runningmatt Posted February 4, 2014 Share #14 Posted February 4, 2014 No, I haven't seen that movie, is it a horror blockbuster or a documentary? It's a cult horror movie from the 70's. It is famous for not actually showing any gory detail, but implying it because of clever editing and production. Far more powerful than any special effects could have been in those days, and probably now too!

XVarior Posted February 5, 2014 Author Share #18 Posted February 5, 2014 Thanks for posting this excellent video. I wanted to ask through the forum about the video performance of the X Vario. But now I have seen. Makes it more difficult for me to decide if I take my HD camcorder or just the X Vario on my next holiday. Best If it's not a critical work where handling a camcorder is more practical to shoot while moving, the XVario will surely suffice. I have another clip posted on YouTube, the one that precedes this one, it's a full color short backcountry ski activity trailer. Have a look so you can see how the camera performs in color also.
