.95 Noctilux-M-9 Metadata

Just purchased the new .95 Noct FYI very nice lens but mega bucks however worth every cent.

Don't know if there has been a post re: this subject? So here goes, shot my first few pic.

downloaded images in Photoshop CS3 & checked the metadata & noticed the lens data

indicates 50mm max. aperature value as 1.0 not .95.

Since I use both the 1.0 & .95 I cannot determine which lens was used unless I write it down. So I guess until there is a Firmware update this will be a fact of life. Any other shooters using both versions of this lens? If so what do you do?

I know many will think this is not a big deal or not worth talking about. But it really is.

PS I have been trying to perfect my skills with this particular lens for many months, I'm getting very close love this lens both versions.

If the lenses are coded, LightRoom displays the specific lens in the Develop Window (Command I). I just checked, and it even tells me which version of the 50mm Summicron. Also, set up the base information with the Pull down menu View>View Options.

 

As for Photoshop, I believe you are out of luck.

 

I'll leave it to others to respond in reference to other programs.

Maybe this is the answer:

“Max aperture value” in EXIF data corrected for the following lenses:

M 35mm/f1.4 (11869, 11870, 11860)

M 50mm/f0.95 ASPH (11602)

etc.

I usually use exiftool. I am on Mac so before I process the photos I can run a small script in terminal window. I do it not just for Nocti but also for any CV or other lenses I have. This way I get a metadata for lenses correctly in Lightroom or any other program. Just create a script for every lens you have, you don't need to be a programmer to figure it out. Also I have 2 sets of scripts for M8 and M9 as focal length is different

I always thought that exiftool needs to safe an uncompressed version of the dng. With being able to change the original dng it should be easy to make a skript that

-saves the guessed aperture as aperture

-saves the lens data for uncoded lenses

As you can use shell code in AppleScript/Automator you can make a simple servicemenue item to use from within Aperture (select all pics of one lens and then run the script via the service menue).
