ampguy Posted August 11, 2009 Share #1 Posted August 11, 2009 Advertisement (gone after registration) Anyone know how the locking mechanism works on the CSEP1 model? Does the locking mechanism contact the M8 body, or just lock or tighten the positioning of the unit in the m8 shoe?
Advertisement Posted August 11, 2009 Posted August 11, 2009 Hi ampguy, Take a look here thumbs up csep1 question. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
leicanut2 Posted August 11, 2009 Share #2 Posted August 11, 2009 Locks on the hot shoe, Also I just got one about a month ago in silver chrome to match my silver chrome M8.2 He does not make many in Silver Chrome. He only had like 3 left in chrome I got the 4 with dual hot shoes. Cheers Jan
efftee Posted August 11, 2009 Share #3 Posted August 11, 2009 Locks on the hot shoe and turns it into a cold shoe. I have the CSEP-1; though I'm not one to add stuff on my M8 but I can say that this is a great contraption if you are looking for more stability on shot making. Better than any grip, original or ones built into half-cases.
leicanut2 Posted August 11, 2009 Share #4 Posted August 11, 2009 I really did not answer your question right, when you push the Thumbs Up on the hot shoe they give you a small allen wrench to tighten it up with this does not mark up the camera in any way. There is also on the thumbs up small rubber pads that keeps from rubbing on the camera body. They really are made well. Cheers Jan

john_newell Posted August 12, 2009 Share #6 Posted August 12, 2009 I've found it's quite secure just with the friction fit. I'm jealous that you found a silver one!!!

I had to wait a month and and emailed him back he only had a few. I had to have chrome, he had only three left that was about a month ago. They where csep1 and csep 4 can't remember now how many of what one but only 3 left. Perfect match to the m8.2 silver chrome finish. Jan

efftee Posted August 13, 2009 Share #10 Posted August 13, 2009 hello folk, and where i can get/buy that stuff, in asia? I heard they are available in Hong Kong, Seoul and Tokyo. Otherwise, you'd have to buy from the Internet, directly from Tim (match tech web site), his online dealers (links available on the match tech web site) or I have also seen them on eBay. Jan Jan, did as you said and got a prompt and colorful response back from Tim. He still has a few and one will be on its way to me shortly, so I'll be selling my black one somewhere. I cannot say how these improve the handling of the camera for an old film user. I used to own an RD-1 and always thought the "wind" lever was an anachronism, but I didn't realize how I'd come to depend on it for handling and controlling the camera! leicanut2 Posted August 14, 2009 Share #16 Posted August 14, 2009 Hey John, Chrome looks good you will like it. He does not advertise the chrome ones on his site you have to ask. Again congrats on the new Thumbs Up Cheers Jan
john_newell Posted August 18, 2009 Share #17 Posted August 18, 2009 My silver CSEP-1 arrived today, thanks Tim! I have to say that my son and I were absolutely amazed by how good the silver paint match is to the silver chrome finish. Both outdoors in the late afternoon sunlight and indoors under halogen lights it's uncanny. So now the black one needs to find a new home! No more pandas here... john_newell Posted September 12, 2009 Share #18 Posted September 12, 2009 Belatedly, a few pictures of the silver CSEP-1 on my now useless and worthless M8 (NOT!). As an aside, I took the M8 to the 9/9 event at a local dealer so I could shoot comparative exposures with my M8 and the M9. There were a couple of M8s there with CSEP-1s installed, but everyone else was amazed at how great the camera felt, and how much easier it was to use, with the Thumbs Up "advance lever." Those are very nice photos John. Many thanks. I hope you don't mind if I post one or two on my website? It was surprisingly difficult match the silver color. But the match came out well in my opinion. I trust your TU-CSEP-1 is serving you as advertised.
john_newell Posted September 20, 2009 Share #20 Posted September 20, 2009 Tim, I am still loving the way this works! Paint is holding up very well as well. On the pictures, send me an email and we can tie up details. (For the record, I've received no compensation or considerations from Tim and won't accept any, either. I think it's important that small entrepreneurs continue to fill in around Mother Leica so that we get creative accessories like this and others.)
