Walker Posted May 22, 2009 Share #1 Posted May 22, 2009 Advertisement (gone after registration) During cleaning the sensor, I noticed a thin stripe on the sensor. I seems some very hard particle has been laying around and got caught by the swab. I always start with gently brushing, so I am very surprised. Anyway, the sensor has to be repaired. Has anyone any clue about price and such? Best William

carstenw Posted May 22, 2009 Share #2 Posted May 22, 2009 Are you sure that it is a scratch, and not just a streak? Just dragging a swab across the sensor doesn't seem like it should damage a Leica sensor. They pay attention to hard coatings, and in the DMR demo days, I have been told that it was common for the salesman to demo "cleaning" the sensor with a polyester tie, to show how tough it was. Shootist Posted May 22, 2009 Share #3 Posted May 22, 2009 I doubt it is a scratch. More then likely a streak. Use a WET swap multiple times to see if it can be removed. Instead of brushing the sensor before using a swap on it turn the camera lens mount down and blow out the shutter chamber, shutter closed then open the shutter and do it again. That way you will blow out all the loose particles. Someone just got a bill from Leica for sensor replacement and it was around the $1200 mark. marknorton Posted May 22, 2009 Share #4 Posted May 22, 2009 Think also about washing your brush in warm soapy water, rinasing and leaving to dry. The problem with brushes is that they can pickup grease from, say, the helicoid at the back of a lens and neatly transfer it to the sensor.
