cme4brain Posted September 12, 2008 Share #2 Posted September 12, 2008 Hi,Official news about new Noctilux on Polish site: Fotopolis.pl: Leica Noctilux-M 50 mm f/0,95 ASPH - powrót legendy! It is official Leica press information about new lenses (SUMMILUX-M 21mm i 24mm f/1.4 ASPH., NOCTILUX-M 50mm f/0.95 ASPH.). Regards, Artur I don't see where they mention a 21 or 24mm f/1.4, and the Noctilux mentioned is an f/0.95; but if this is the case, then many leica fans are dancing in the streets. zlatkob Posted September 13, 2008 Share #3 Posted September 13, 2008 The other lenses are mentioned on the same site here: Fotopolis.pl: Leica szerokok?tnie - dwa Summiluxy, jeden Elmar Those do look like press releases, but it's not really officially confirmed until Leica announces it. guywalder Posted September 13, 2008 Share #4 Posted September 13, 2008 on what basis is this 'official'?? It would hardly be the first time someone had photoshopped a picture and started a rumour... That said I'll be happy if a 24/1.4 is coming (although not at 5k!!), although its all just hot air until you can actually buy the damn thing
lars_bergquist Posted September 13, 2008 Share #5 Posted September 13, 2008 I will believe this when I see the lenses at my dealer's. And then I will be very sad, because it will mean that Leica have gone sadly astray, again not giving a damn about photographic useability. Gilt Leicas too, with lizard coverings and decorated with engravings memorializing fatuous 'occasions' and jubilees and petty despots did indeed find buyers, but they could not keep Leica from very nearly foundering. Neither will a new Noctilux. And neither will an obstreperous refusal to give us a useable wide-angle lens with a larger field of view than a full-format 28. Thanks Carl Zeiss AG for being more rational. The old man from the Age of Photography (when cameras were for taking pictures)

marknorton Posted September 13, 2008 Share #7 Posted September 13, 2008 Advertisement (gone after registration) I think Lars is disappointed there isn't a 16mm or 18mm prime lens. I agree tghere are usability issues with the WATE. Mind you, if we had FF, our cup would runneth over with the choice of wide-angles...
stunsworth Posted September 13, 2008 Share #8 Posted September 13, 2008 I think Leica have looked at which focal lengths sell the best and released those first. Good as it is, I doubt that the 35mm equivalent of 18mm, 24mm, was their best seller. I'd expect an 18mm later. For a small company I think they've done remarkably well to produce all these lenses at the same time.
