mikki Posted October 18, 2009 Share #1 Posted October 18, 2009 Advertisement (gone after registration) Hello, Recently, I started to use 2500 more and more because I like the B&W effect alot. However, in the dark areas, I noticed horizontal banding. I recalled that I saw something like this earlier on this forum, so I wondered if anyone has got this fixed. Should I send my camera to Leica? I'm talking about straight from the camera JPGs. Thanks in advance

mikki Posted October 18, 2009 Author Share #2 Posted October 18, 2009 This picture shows an example. It's a small portion from a JPEG file. I admit it not really disturbing here, but it's clearly visible at print-size.
viramati Posted October 18, 2009 Share #3 Posted October 18, 2009 In this sort of shot I get the same sort of thing. Leica's are not high iso machines go above 640 at your peril. Getting dark, out comes the D700
graeme_hutton Posted October 19, 2009 Share #4 Posted October 19, 2009 Leica are aware of this and have promised (in writing!) a fix in a future firmware upgrade. Regards Graeme
russell Posted October 19, 2009 Share #5 Posted October 19, 2009 Yep, that looks like same banding I've posted about in the past. I don't mind the noise so much as the banding! They've never addressed this issue directly so I'm not sure what the last poster is talking about... I hope they do though
mikki Posted October 20, 2009 Author Share #6 Posted October 20, 2009 Here's another sample. Only slightly cropped ISO 2500. No special lighting conditions whatsoever, I find it very disturbing. I also noticed some of this at ISO 640. Should I talk to Leica about this??

I hope they do though I'm talking about this correspondence to me from Leica a few weeks ago; Dear Mr. Graeme, Thanks for your interest in the Leica M system. The mentioned intermittent failure is now known by our Quality Department. We will fix that by a later LEICA M8 firmware update. So is it not necessary to rectify the camera before warranty runs out. Thank you for your understanding. Mit freundlichen Gruessen / kind regards i. A.
