holmes Posted June 13, 2009 Share #1 Posted June 13, 2009 Advertisement (gone after registration) Retro fitted. Recently purchased a mint - R6.2, and a mint - R7. I've been using an M6TTL 0.58, plus two M7s, 0.58 and .072. for a number of years. The M's have traveled with me around the US and Europe. Munich at Christmas in a blizzard. Fantastic. Before joining the Leica legion I was/am shooting with Canon EOS with a very decent collection of lenses. I also enjoy my Mamiya 6x7 rangefinder and my Pentax 6x4.5 AF. It was in Europe with the M7s and lenses from 28 f2 asph, 35 f2 asph and my 75 f1.4 asph. I got some magnificent slides from my travels. My problem was that there were times I was frustrated b y not having enough length. Canon EOS is great with the 200 f 1.8 and the 300 f 2.8. I have the matched extenders for both lenses. Not my idea of fun way to travel on an airplane. In the back of my mind I started to think about picking up a couple of Leica reflex. They would be only to add two or three long lenses to my M kit. So I started calling and looking around the country. I got lucky. Found a R6.2 in mint- followed by an R7 in likewise condition. I've got two German lenses, the 180 f4, nice, small and compact, plus sharp. I was steered to a zoom, the f 4.2 105-280, mint - condition. This is the way lenses used to be, metal. I am on the hunt for a mint 90 f 2.8. This lens will close the gap so to speak. I will then have Leica lenses from M 28 f2 asph, to my R f 4.2 105-280 with the 180 f 4 added in. The test rolls I've shot are quite something. Shooting slides so there's no for error, and they will show the corners, contrast and overall color. The biggest pleasure for me shooting with my Leicas. IT'S FUN.

kenneth Posted June 13, 2009 Share #2 Posted June 13, 2009 I also use Kodachrome 64 occasionally and I find there is nothing to beat loading a magazine in my Pradovit projector and sitting back and enjoying the detail that Leica objectives give. I would say 95% of the pictures I take though are black and white and although I enjoy to see the results in the darkroom it doesn't beat the Kodachrome experience. kenneth Posted June 14, 2009 Share #5 Posted June 14, 2009 I would call it "Forward to Film"Good point although for me it is the link with the past and the rich history of our art which grounds me to film. I feel a connection somehow with those wonderful photographers of the past, something it is impossible to experience with digital processes

KM-25 Posted June 15, 2009 Share #7 Posted June 15, 2009 Advertisement (gone after registration) I call film 'Real' fun. Many argue that a timeless film look can be gained in photoshop, but why do that when you can just ride the consistency of the 'Real" thing into a great style of imagery? It's the pairing of that consistency with an artisan approach that reels me in every time.... Kodachrome 64, M6TTL, 35mm 1.4 Asph: Welcome, dear visitor!
