Remember how excited we were the first time the Panasonic firmware appeared? ;)

Looks as if a lengthier check-out period pays off! But I'm looking forward to the Leica firmware update as well. :)

Mark--

Welcome to the forum!

Leica will post the update to their website under "downloads."

Someone on the forum will see it and start a new thread here.

Andreas (the guy behind the L-Camera Forum) will send a note to all subscribed members of the forum. (L-Camera Newsletter or something like that. You're probably already receiving it.)

Usually I see the forum thread before I get the news from Andreas, but that's just because of the size and overhead of his work.

Or, to coin a phrase: "You'll see it here first!" :)

This is a totally neutral comment - not trying to make any comparison between Leica and Panasonic. That said...I'm amazed that Panasonic (or any company) would essentially create a new camera, or at least a new model of an existing camera, through a free firmware upgrade. It's really an amazing upgrade, under the circumstances. I will add that I was (pleasantly) surprised when Leica added the discrete release mode to the M8 firmware. We'll hope more updates/upgrades like these appear.

Hopping for the new firmware, but i mostly hope for an EVF on DLUX4 with the new Epson circuit and i would love to see in the new firmware the ability to lock the lens in certain preprogrammed focal lenghts (eg.24-28-31-35-40-50-60).

As an M photographer i feel much more confident to work and compose with a preset focal length -i hate the uncontrollable backlash of the zoom button.

The EVF and the prelocked focal length selection will turn DLUX 4 in what it deserves to be

-a real pro mini camera.:)

I tend to believe that a firmware upgrade that fixes such things as white balace and giving you faster autofocusing isn't really giving you a new camera, but giving you, the customer, what the company should've provided for in the first place. It's like when Apple upgrades OS X and we see that 10.5.8 fixes all the bugs from 10.5.1 to 10.5.7.

pre locked focal lengths possibility and an EVF or even a viewfinder with framelines

24-28-31-35-40-50-60.will be a very crowded area he????

would be so nice,i hope Leica is listening and will consider, will be the next CM ZOOM but digital.I pray this to happen every night.:)

this zoom backlash is impossible, but the camera is so effective.

24-28-31-35-40-50-60 will be like having an interchangeable lens camera.

A Dlux 4 system with seven lenses, very cool.:)

Yes I Like to have this seven Lenses on my D-Lux4. And I like that the D-lux4 remeber the last Lense and by restart goes directly to this focal lense.

When will come this new firmwareupdate? I thought this will be released and of october, but I heared nothing from Leica.

if someone supports the idea of the ability in a next firmware for D-LUX 4 to lock the lens in 24-28-31-35-40-50-60 lens and the adition of an EVF even an optical viewfinder please post it here.A zoom viewfinder like the one from Voigtlander is an option and also Epson announce a new board that delivers higher EVF standards.DLUX 4 is a very pro mini camera capable of newspaper and editorial quality prints for news and street photography

can become a more pro system-currently i'm testing DLUX 4 in Large Format Printing and results are promising-i have to test further.:)

i dont like the idea of buying a canon g11 just to be able to frame in daylight with some accuracy.
