Actually, funny thing is, my first sample of this lens, bought about a year ago, only did take Leica filters. All B+W filters did get the metallic hood a bit jammed when screwed on. I bought another copy of this lens this summer, and on that one all filters fit without the hood jamming. Strange..... Product development perhaps.... Mylek Posted October 3, 2011 Share #5 Posted October 3, 2011 With the 24 Elmarit, i had problem to use a B+W ND filter 0.9 with the hood attached. I remenbered when i was buying the lens the dealer recommend me to buy the Leica UV filter because it was thinner than the B_W. I argued with him but he was right. The B+W might be thinner in thickness but the Leica was had a smaller diameter that allow me to use it without problem with the hood attached. . nelly Posted November 20, 2011 Share #7 Posted November 20, 2011 Advertisement (gone after registration) I use a Heliopan 0.9 ND filter with my Summilux 35mm FLE and fits perfectly with hood and do not notice any loss in sharpness. I found the 0.9 a better choice for me than the 0.6 I just got back from shooting at Joshua Tree CA with this lens and ND filter and very happy with how my pictures came out. lars_bergquist Posted January 9, 2012 Share #10 Posted January 9, 2012 I have had the same experience. When I bought an early 35mm Summilux ASPH v.2, the hood was a tight fit even with Leica filters. When I unscrewed the hood, the filter came out too, lodged inside the hood, and had to be pried out. But this past autumn I purchased the 21mm Super-Elmar, which is supposed to use the same 12465 hood, and this slips easily over the same Leica filter. I also tried a B+W F-Pro mounted filter. This too worked well with the late hood, but the early hood would not go over it unless I used more force than I was willing to apply. So it is clear that Leica have quietly altered the inner diameter of the hood. Not that this matters much to me. With lenses with these solid screw-on hoods I prefer to work without a filter. A polariser (in the case of the 35) will require me to remove the hood in any case. It is a different matter with lenses with telescoping hoods, like my 50mm Summilux ASPH, my 90mm Elmarit-M or my Apo-Telyt, where I want the extra protection of a filter. Yes - I have the 24 f/3.8 as well as the 35 ASPH FLE and their hoods seem identical and interchangeable (I have swapped them over without difficulty) - but they have slightly different serial numbers (one digit different I think)... strange. I think that if you compare them directly, the hoods will be seen to be of different depth. So they are not identical, but they share the same thread dimansions. Nothing mysterious about that. L.B. christer Posted January 10, 2012 Share #13 Posted January 10, 2012 Even leaving the "thin" filters aside, not all B+W filters have the same dimensions even if the diameter and the filter factor are the same. I bought a filter with "nano" treated surface, which is the top grade among the B+W filters, for my Sony Nex 5n short kit zoom lens but was unable to fit the hood when the filter was mounted. So I had to downgrade to the second best B+W filter and then there was no problem with the hood. BTW the people at B+W were very helpful to diagnose the problem and arrange for an exchange.
