I showed my day bag a Shootsac,

So I thought I'd share it with you here. It's made from neoprene (the stuff diving suits are made from) and contains six compartments each of which are big enough to hold a Leica M body with a small lens fitted. Because neoprene is a stretch material, it expands to take the item and shrinks back to grip it firmly, but easily expands again to allow your hand to remove the item.

Below are photos of the bag empty and filled with the gear on show. I rarely carry all this Leica gear, but I do fill it for my weddings and it allows me to dispense with a case, leaving me free to roam without any concern for the Pelicase with £5,000 set of kit left in Reception.

When I travel, I use a padded case and the flattened Sac sits in the case. When I shoot, I just carry the Sac and gear I want. Two bodies and three lenses, plus media are fine. In the evening I'll take a Leica Table Top tripod in the Sac.

I wear the Sac across the body and it curves itself to avoid sticking out like a traditional box camera bag. If I'm in a tough part of town, or if the weather is bad I wear the bag under my coat, yes - under my coat, thereby concealing the gear and keeping it dry. I rarely use the top cover which is easily removable with it's Velcro strip.

I imported mine from the USA, see The Shootsac Lens Bag | Changing the way you shoot! and had to pay some import duty.

If anybody in the UK needed one for a Xmas present, I have a new and boxed one available that I could sell you (pm me). It's a great bag.

While we're at it - I can also recommend the "M Classics": Leitz M Classics.

I bought one from Seth Levine (who created these bags) when I was in Boston last year. Seth is a very nice guy and his bags are specifically designed for M Leicas and not for SLRs or something else. I'm using mine all the time when I'm out shooting.

:D:D

5 B&W in the black bag, 5 colour in the blue bag and one B&W in the camera. Total 400 frames - enough for two weddings !! :D

... wow - and still you've got one to sell. You seem to be in love with these bags. How do they protect from rain? Are the items in the bag likely to bag together because the Neoprene is too thin?

Cheers

I use this bag for my DSLR gear too.

Rain: waterproof.

Thin neoprene: oh no, quite the opposite. This is probably 5mm thick and super soft.

Fashion victims: you can put lots of different covers on the base Sac depending upon your needs - they have a lot of snazzy designs if you so desire. I stick with the standard stealth black.

Graham got it right. The gear is well protected and the kit doesn't roll around. I like it a lot.

The second bag has a buyer. :)

I haven't tried the Sac with the Leica gear - you could pack a lot of lenses in there although you might want to pad the bottom or stack lenses otherwise you might have to dig deep to fish out the smaller lenses.

With my Nikon DSLR I carry the lenses I need in the bag, plus basic accessories but carry the camera over my shoulder. The Sac works for excursions away from the car where the big bags/cases stay with the full lens assortment.

Actually part of the appeal of the Sac is the lack of 'support' but still having decent protection and utility. The Sac will conform to the contours of your body and equipment when you use it vs being a traditional semi-rigid overstuffed bag. It's certainly not a panacea but it does what it's designed to do very very well IMHO.

It's not for everyone that's for sure. Like Rolo, I like it.

Tools of choice for fine rangefinder adjustment. :D

Heck if you don't like the Sac as a lens bag you can always find other fine uses for it. My only complaint is that I find the circular clip a bit, how can I put it, girly.

Hello Rolo,

at the lens on the top right of assemble -I think it´s a 75- you have this ring to help turn the focus ring. Ascough used to use the same.

Where can I find these, searched the net without any luck.

Thank you,

heiko
