So as I promised in another thread, I'll show some examples of the Leica Vario-Elmar-R 1:4/35-70 Macro lens, coupled to a R8 with DMR.

First some 'test chart' shots to see the difference between F/4 F/5,6 and F/8 the following 3 shots of a can are shot focused as close as is possible with the camera/lens combination.

I find the 35-70 F/4 in real life use, usable as of F/5,6 (in macro mode, in normal mode F/4,0 is really good already) at F/4 the lens show a sort of 'glow' in macro mode, so I always atleast stop down to F/5,6

Very nice and extraordinary considering the age and tech specs of the DMR.

What is it about the DMR that all the years later it still out performs a lot of current gear?

The technical specs typically posted on the internet are incomplete. The DMR shows that low-ISO color discrimination has been lost in other makers' ISO race-to-the-top.

It's not a CCD vs. CMOS difference, the difference is in the Color Filter Array incorporated in the sensor. The Kodak SLR/c and SLR/n are also known for their excellent low ISO color quality and poor high-ISO performance and they use a CMOS sensor.

Well, due to this post and the other shots you've posted Jip, i've gone ahead and bought a ROM copy of this lens from France (i'm in London) for a pretty good price.

...yes, i don't have an R9 yet, or a DMR, but seeing as i'll be basing the system around this lens, i'm not too fussed ;)

I did pick up adapters for my NEX3 and Canon 20D to use in the mean time tho. They were too cheap not to.
