jip Posted September 14, 2013 Share #1 Posted September 14, 2013 Advertisement (gone after registration) So as I promised in another thread, I'll show some examples of the Leica Vario-Elmar-R 1:4/35-70 Macro lens, coupled to a R8 with DMR. First some 'test chart' shots to see the difference between F/4 F/5,6 and F/8 the following 3 shots of a can are shot focused as close as is possible with the camera/lens combination. I find the 35-70 F/4 in real life use, usable as of F/5,6 (in macro mode, in normal mode F/4,0 is really good already) at F/4 the lens show a sort of 'glow' in macro mode, so I always atleast stop down to F/5,6 Welcome, dear visitor! CrisRose Posted September 14, 2013 Share #4 Posted September 14, 2013 Huge thanks Jip!! Exactly the sort of info I was looking for - I can easily say that for my needs, the level of macro and image quality is great, I'm even more keen to pick up this combo now. You have me excited at the posibilities
sc_rufctr Posted September 15, 2013 Share #5 Posted September 15, 2013 Very nice and extraordinary considering the age and tech specs of the DMR. What is it about the DMR that all the years later it still out performs a lot of current gear?
dkCambridgeshire Posted September 15, 2013 Share #6 Posted September 15, 2013 Very nice and extraordinary considering the age and tech specs of the DMR. What is it about the DMR that all the years later it still out performs a lot of current gear? Leica ... they explored the potential and optimised the performance dunk
wildlightphoto Posted September 16, 2013 Share #7 Posted September 16, 2013 Advertisement (gone after registration) Very nice and extraordinary considering the age and tech specs of the DMR. What is it about the DMR that all the years later it still out performs a lot of current gear? The technical specs typically posted on the internet are incomplete. The DMR shows that low-ISO color discrimination has been lost in other makers' ISO race-to-the-top. It's not a CCD vs. CMOS difference, the difference is in the Color Filter Array incorporated in the sensor. The Kodak SLR/c and SLR/n are also known for their excellent low ISO color quality and poor high-ISO performance and they use a CMOS sensor.

They were too cheap not to.
jip Posted September 18, 2013 Author Share #9 Posted September 18, 2013 Hey Cris, You don't need a R9 for the DMR the R8 works as well, and they are a fair bit cheaper... I use a R8 with the DMR, seems to work haha.
CrisRose Posted September 19, 2013 Share #10 Posted September 19, 2013 Yeah, i know, and i might still get an R8, but i'd like the few extra bits the R9 offers...
