marknorton Posted August 15, 2013 Share #1 Posted August 15, 2013 Advertisement (gone after registration) Has anyone used the R adapter which turns any lens into a telescope with a magnification of f/12.5 so that a 180mm lens with a 2x converter becomes a 29 times telescope. I'm wondering whether this is a reasonable alternative to the full-fledge spotting scope, I expect not.
Advertisement Posted August 15, 2013 Posted August 15, 2013 Hi marknorton, Take a look here R Telescope Adapter. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
mmradman Posted August 15, 2013 Share #2 Posted August 15, 2013 T-OR is very handy converting long R lens into high magnification scope, can't say is it better than dedicated scope as never tried one. Getting T-OR can be more difficult than new or S/H scope though, I was lucky to find one a while back at R Caplan.

mmradman Posted August 15, 2013 Share #4 Posted August 15, 2013 Just found one at £89 which seems worth trying... That is less than a cost of a new Leica UV filter, can't go wrong.
johnnyj Posted August 15, 2013 Share #5 Posted August 15, 2013 I use the adaptor with a 2x extender on both the 70-180 and 105-280. Although not a televid spotting scope the image is excellent and with the zooms can be easily racked in and out. In some cases I prefer the zooms to the spotting scope because the scope is too delicate when framing the image. But the zooms won't give the same magnification. marknorton Posted August 16, 2013 Author Share #6 Posted August 16, 2013 Received it yesterday, quite interesting to put it on an 80mm Summilux with the x2 adapter, gives a 12 magnification with lots of light.

The item was listed during second week of July or prior - surprising that nobody bought it immediately. dunk
ph. Posted August 18, 2013 Share #8 Posted August 18, 2013 it is also quite robust and weighs far less than lens+ scope or lens + monocular. I sometimes carry it as "lens cap" on the 100mm or the longer zoom: saves time mounting. It cannot, however substitute totally for a binocular view. p.
