hx911 Posted September 20, 2008 Share #1 Posted September 20, 2008 Advertisement (gone after registration) I realized that for tight places the 28mm is not wide enough. Mostly came to the fore on my recent visit to New York. My recent purchase of the VC (or CV) 35mm1.4 primed me - so at my (second) visit to B&H i could not resist, and bought the 21mm4.0 better than I hope, and I use no external finder, just guesswork (and if I have time, the full viewfinder, hard work for a glasses wearer). Advertisement Posted September 20, 2008 Posted September 20, 2008 Hi hx911, Take a look here 21mm .... I love it!. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
Shootist Posted September 20, 2008 Share #2 Posted September 20, 2008 I have one of these lenses and find it spectacular. I've also owned the Elmarit 21 Pre-ASPH and the CV runs very close. But I have to say the Leica lens is slightly better. But not enough for the price difference even with it being 1 stops faster. I also use just the whole viefinder. Works for me. This is the Biltmore in Atlanta from back end. Welcome, dear visitor! As registered member you'd see an image here… Simply register for free here – We are always happy to welcome new members! rosuna Posted September 20, 2008 Share #3 Posted September 20, 2008 Is the 21mm useable for street reportage work (this is, people)?
Shootist Posted September 20, 2008 Share #4 Posted September 20, 2008 Is the 21mm useable for street reportage work (this is, people)? Not sure I'd want a 21mm lens for street reportage even with the M8 crop factor.
Nick De Marco Posted September 20, 2008 Share #5 Posted September 20, 2008 "Is the 21mm useable for street reportage work (this is, people)?" Yes. I don't see why not. Remember it equates almost exactly to a 28mm in 35mm format. So it's a bit wide, but not too wide. For me I think a 35 lens on a 35 camera is the closest to the ideal range for street photography - so my 28 Elmarit on the M8 equates. But you can have fun with the 21 as well. Here are a couple from my Brighton gallery - and all of the street photography I did on my Leica that in that gallery use only the 21mm (Elmarit) nb, photos 2 and 3 are "shot from the hip" when seeing some colourful characters. That's something you are more likely to be able to do with a 21mm lens on the M8, than with the
