POSTCAMERA

The name "Postcameras" derives from the fact that the postal service of a given country was in charge of monitoring the telephone meters system.

The earliest M Postcamera reported is 928997 (24x27mm) from a 1958 batch 928923-929000.Made in 24x36 and 24x27 formats.

Production records between 1958 - 1963 indicates a total production over 700 units in 3 different models built on MD/M3, MDa and MD-2 and with 3 different lenses 35mm f 3.5, Summaron (engraved Post), 35mm f 2.8 (engraved DPB= Deutsches Bundes Post) and 28mm f5.6 Summaron.

The model illustrated here is from 1960 it is based on the M3 body 24x27 format with a fixed focus Summaron 3.5/35, fixed shutter speed at 1/50, syncro X flash only.

Until recently I owned an Alpa 11a Post camera with the same mounting plate and (I think) Alon or Alor 35mm lens.The lens was interchangeable by first removing the mounting plate. Can you do this with the Leica Post And Has the shutter a full range of speeds? The Alpa had only 1/60th second.

Alos in Switzerland modified the bodies cameras for the Post administration.

so the name of your lens is may be a derivative of this factory name.

 

On this M3POST, you can disconnect the lens without tools and the speed is fixed to 1/50

on this MDaPOST you need to remove a screw for taking off the lens and the shutter as the complete speed available.
