italy74 Posted September 13, 2010 Share #1 Posted September 13, 2010 Advertisement (gone after registration) Hi guys I know there are several versions of this lens since it has been released in 1970 also with different filter thread. Is there any version particularly good to look for, especially with a filter thread of 55 mm ? I found also some lens of the '90s with a 48mm (maybe 49 not sure) In general, where one can find tech details of the Leica lenses? I know a site or two for Nikon which are highly effective and I saw that Erwin Puts uploaded a remarkable amount of informations to start with, yet something deeper is still missing. Is there a real Leica database to check somewhere on the net? Thanks in advance
Advertisement Posted September 13, 2010 Posted September 13, 2010 Hi italy74, Take a look here Elmarit-R 28 mm - tech question. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
andybarton Posted September 13, 2010 Share #2 Posted September 13, 2010 The best version is, unsurprisingly, the latest one with built-in hood and ROM chip. I currently own this version and have previously owned the earlier one with the bayonet hood. That one needs Series 7 filters, and isn't quite as good optically, in my opinion. However, both are very nice lenses. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
italy74 Posted September 13, 2010 Author Share #3 Posted September 13, 2010 Ciao Andy now let my genoese (penny pincher) side to speak for me... "what a pity, the newest one is probably the most expensive one", but thanks at least now I have a reference point and will look for that (always liked built-in hoods, simply smarter) - I thought you pointed to the last version before ROM. ( I hoped ROM and NON-ROM version were optically similar, being quite close in time )
italy74 Posted September 13, 2010 Author Share #4 Posted September 13, 2010 By chance I found this site by myself, I think it might be useful for some. Although in Italian, it's mostly a table of data about Leica-R lenses, thus easy to understand Tabelle: caratteristiche tecniche degli obiettivi Leica R All the best
andybarton Posted September 14, 2010 Share #5 Posted September 14, 2010 The lens with built-in hood is the same regardless of whether it has the ROM chip. Unless you are thinking about using a DMR, the ROM has no value. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Good to know, since I don't think to use DMR

For example, info about aperture dynamics specific to that particular lens sample, and focal length info for a zoom flash gets sent to the camera.
