Annibale G. Posted February 14, 2009 Share #1 Posted February 14, 2009 Advertisement (gone after registration) Hi, I was just asking mself why some developer mainly the Kodak TMax use as standard deleveloping time 24°C instead of the classic 20°C. What are the differences? Can I use lower temperature? 22°C or 20°C How can I find the others developing time at different temperatures? Thanks Annibale

andybarton Posted February 14, 2009 Share #2 Posted February 14, 2009 Yes you can use it at lower temperatures Go to digitaltruth.com and look at the Great Big Development Chart on the top left for tipsd
fotohuis Posted February 14, 2009 Share #3 Posted February 14, 2009 Yes you can but the best preformance of the Tmax developer with Tmax films is on 24 degrees C. Some other developers are also working on a higher temperature like the CG512/Rollei Low Speed developer: Also 24 degrees C. Most developers are working best on 20 degrees C. Rodinal even better on a lower temperature: 18 degrees C. because with slow agitation and close around 18 degrees C. you will have less grain with this Para-Amino Phenol developer. Always make a time correction according the Ilford/Harman temperature correction table. Within the range of 18-24 degrees C you will normally succeed without too much deviations. Some components are inactive under 18 degrees C and normally above 24 degrees C. the developing time can be too short for a reproducible result and the emulsion is getting pretty soft over 24 degrees C. so that means you have to use a hardener then.
