5000 ed is indeed a cool scanner haha. It is the one I use and for the money gives good results - the next one down in the nikon line up V ED I think it is called is essentially the same scanner but with 14 bits rather than 16 and a single row of scanning leds and it costs a lot less

I bought a V ED because I didn't want to spend the big bucks for the 5000. It took me a while to find one. I'm pretty pleased with it so far.

Another vote for the Nikon 5000 ED and i find it works better with the F-3-H optional film holder (approx £20) a sit holds the film edges flatter. I also prefer Vuescan to the supplied Nikon Scan - much more flexible for b/w negs IMHO.

I use exactly the same setup. Nikon 500 and vuescan. My scans come out a little bright all the time. What is your setting for TMax 400, archive quality? If you dont mind me asking. I'd appreciate it.

I need to wait until i'm back in Bangkok and plugged in the scanner to check my settings and that will be in early June. Perhaps you can email me nearer the time as this thread will be long buried by then.....:)

Konica Minolta Dual 4 enough for the Leica film shooting?
Welcome to the forum Frank! :) It depends on what you want to do with the scan. For display on the web it is more than adequate. For printing (and framing) or any other higher resolution I would consider the Minolta 5400 (1st version). However I've had photographs printed in books that were scanned with the Milolta Dual Scan IV and they have looked very good. It is a great little scanner and really quite inexpensive. I think mine cost US $250 new. What a pity Konica Minolta gave up on the photo business...
