Epson V600

I'm thinking about getting a scanner to get my film prints onto my computer (getting it done at the lab for $9 per roll is just ridiculous), any comments, opinions, suggestions about the Epson V600? Or will something cheaper/simpler suffice? My main purpose for this scanner is to transfer 4x6 or 5x7 prints to 10 MP (or maybe a little better) pix for online sharing.

What do you guys think?

Thanks for your advice in advance.

Hi Eddie,

I do not have the V600, but I had the V500 : it seems good to scan medium format or 24x36

I gave my V500 to my son.I bought the V700** and the V750***.

They are of the same lineage.

I think the V600 is correct but if you can put some more Euros (or USD), it is better to buy the V700 or 750.

I am satisfied and I think for the price, the V700 or 750 is good (better than the V500) !

In medium format, some are happy

I'll post pictures in black and white with the Epson V700 versus NikonScan V if I have a little time.

I'm in a similar position trying to decide on a scanner for med. format. I found on Flickr specific groups for Epson V700 and Canoscan 9900 with lots of examples.

This is helping me by at least seeing how other people's work reproduces.

Unfortunately, I still haven't taken the plunge.

Thanks for all the responses. I'm sure the V700 is better/much improved from the V600, but I really think the V600 will suffice. Unless....

What are the improvements found in the V700/V750 that are not in the V600?

As for the image posted, looks great to my eye. From what I can see, I prefer the Epson to the Nikon.

Hi,

if you are not printing from the scans, just posting to the web, the v600 or v700 is more than fine, especially for MF. you will find scans of your wet prints will show fairly well, too; especially if you are just wanting to post them online. if you desire to print digitally, the extra cost of a better scanner is justified; otherwise for just posting online, it is a waste of your dough, better saved or spent on a lens.

i think a lot of people over estimate how much quality they need. i have a v500, and i'm not saying a v700 or v750 aren't better machines, i'm sure they are. but, i've printing loads of 6x4 and 7.5x5 prints from scanning with a v500 at 800dpi and they are absolutely fine. i compare them to the prints from the lab and you can't see the different quality wise.

but if you're hell bent on getting top quality, then v750 and v700 are better than v500.

Eddie, I own an Epson V700 & have used the 600. Although the 600 is a bit cheeper, I think the build & the scan quality of the V700 & the V750 are much better & more easily manipulated, using a front end software like Vuescan. The results for me are important & the 700 delivers.
