Advertisement Posted May 4, 2010 Posted May 4, 2010 Hi martin, Take a look here APX 400 is dead :-(. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
plasticman Posted May 4, 2010 Share #2 Posted May 4, 2010 "ADOX have announced that they will resume the production of a material identical to Agfa APX 400 during 2010." from Wikipedia
ndjambrose Posted May 4, 2010 Share #3 Posted May 4, 2010 Rollei Retro 400 is a remake of APX 400 . I've been using it for a few years. While it may not be identical it has many (most?) of the same characteristics, especially in response curve. Low to moderate contrast, lots of subtle tonality in the mid-range, great shadow detail, very sharp if processed in low speed developer.
cocker Posted May 4, 2010 Share #4 Posted May 4, 2010 Rollei Retro 400 is a remake of APX 400 . I've been using it for a few years. Low to moderate contrast, lots of subtle tonality in the mid-range, great shadow detail, very sharp if processed in low speed developer. You may be right but other reports suggest that Rollei retro 400 IS APX 400. That Agfas coated rolls were bought when the Leverkussen plant was closed and Rollei Retro 400 was cut and packaged from them. Either way is an excellent film with an bit of a tendency to curl! ndjambrose Posted May 4, 2010 Share #5 Posted May 4, 2010 Keith, you're dead right about the curling. It's also trickier to wind onto the developer reels - seems a bit thinner than other stock and doesn't thread quite so easily.
veraikon Posted May 4, 2010 Share #6 Posted May 4, 2010 Rollei Retro 400 is a remake of APX 400 . . RR 400 = APX 400 manufactured from "original" Agfa Leverkusen Material by the northern german "Rollei" trademarkholder for filmmaterial. HANS O. MAHN & CO. KG - MACO PHOTO PRODUCTS - MACO X-RAY GERMANY They offer nowadays "last edition sets" of Rollei R 400 and R100 (twnpacks). It is definitelly the end . Agfa Gevaert (Belgium) ist obviously not producing a similar material. Let´s hope that Mirko (Adox/efke) will have success in imitating APX

ndjambrose Posted May 20, 2010 Share #11 Posted May 20, 2010 Just an update on where APX-400 is still available .... I bought 40 rolls of Retro 400 S from Ag Photographic. The Specialists for all traditional photo products. Excellent service and very efficient. I ordered yesterday. It was despatched same day by recorded delivery and was in my hands this morning. I believe they have plenty of new stock. Plus it's cheap. Only £1.63 per roll and doesn't expire until August 2014.
