troyfreund Posted December 11, 2009 Share #1 Posted December 11, 2009 Advertisement (gone after registration) I recently acquired a Leitz Focomat enlarger from a school that was getting rid of it. I've only just started to try and print with it and had a question regarding the negative carrier. It's a pretty simple question--is this all there is to it? How do you really hold your negative in place when you're changing negs and such? Any advice would be great! Thanks much! Troy Welcome, dear visitor! ismon Posted December 11, 2009 Share #2 Posted December 11, 2009 Cock the lamphead back to expose the negative carrier & condenser. The rear edge of your negative strip rests against the two rear pins on the carrier. Release the locking latch to return the lamphouse to its closed position. The negative strip is still positionable in the carrier until you use the chrome lever on the right ( I don't see it in your photo) to lower the condenser against the negative. The condenser acts as a pressure plate to hold the negative flat. There was a special glass pressure plate (17652) which could be fitted over the condenser to prevent the formation of Newton's rings. tobey bilek Posted December 12, 2009 Share #5 Posted December 12, 2009 There shoould be a lever on the right to retract the condenser. The track is visable to raise it, but the lever which is 5" long is missing.. That is some ancient carrier too. I suspect a Valloy. There should be a pair or ramps in the front and a depression for the film. Make sure it auto focuses properly or you will need help to set it up
aesop Posted December 12, 2009 Share #6 Posted December 12, 2009 ...Troy, this is a Focomat 1c and I agree with Tobey that the lever (and possibly the condenser lens) appear to be missing. It goes without saying that both these parts are integral to the operation of this enlarger. You can view the Focomat 1c's full original manual in English via this link. Hope everything works out for you.
