I upgraded to lr3 but can't find any leica profiles in develope mode.. there is a list of 5 cameras...canon, nikon, pentax etc but no leica, nor in the lens profile section. Is this because leica does dng? And according to my new lr3 handbook there's also supposed to be listings such as landscape, camera vivid, etc. the only choices i get in camera profile are embeded and adobe standard... my pics are shot in uncompressed dng. any help out there, and thanks bill

There are M8/M9 profiles installed on your computer. They are here:

Bibliotheek > Application Support > Adobe > CameraRaw > CameraProfiles

And there you have several choices: Adobe Standard, Adobe Standard beta 1, Camera and Camera beta 1.

I am a heavy C1 5 pro user and I find the profile which is called Camera Standard almost as good as the one in C1. On my computer are the colors they produce identical! So I'm thinking of changing for my workflow to LR3. I really like the application. Few years ago i was a Aperture user, but with the latest update I find it not a professional application anymore.

Isn't lr3 supposed to have a leica camera profile? Adobe says they support leica in the 3 version yet it is not listed like cab on, Nixon, etc. Is that because dng is already converted by adobe? I am new to leica, lr, and raw so please excuse the lame questions. If I just go with adobe standard for my profile is that ok?

Samelmoe the profile available to you as Adobe Standard under the Camera Calibration menu has been made by Adobe specifically for the M9. It is unchanged from earlier versions of LR. The other option 'embedded' is the option from the camera if that specific profile was not available.

The other variations that you mention (Landcsape, portrait etc) are additional options only available for high volume selling cameras such as the Canon products. It doesn't hurt there that Canon is the brand owned by a certain Adobe senior figure :)

But low volume products are unlikely to have many options like that made simply due to commercial reality/demand.

However the big advantage that you have is that you can make or obtain custom profiles (if desired) because the camera is capturing in that native DNG format. And also being DNG they are automatically supported in any DNG aware Raw processor even if the specific profile was not available.

One of the members here (Sandy McGuffog ) has made available an excellent custom profile that is very neutral and you may like to obtain that one and check it as an option when developing your own files. You can find it and a great deal more interesting and erudite information at his website

ChromaSoft

I have that one and a custom one of my own (email me if you want that one), but most often find that the original Adobe one is my choice.

So the Executive Summary for all of that is, Yes the Adobe Standard profile is fine and you can also explore further if wanted.
