M9: Image recording instruments and apparatus, in particular photographic rangefinder cameras for analogue or digital still image recording Filing Date September 3, 2007 Published for Opposition February 26, 2008 Registration Date May 13, 2008 Owner Leica Camera AG Oskar-Barnack-Strasse 11 35606 Solms FED REP GERMANY >>>Leica has NOT registered "R10" - but then it appears they have never registered the R camera names previously. >>>Nor did they register any M camera names until the M8. Of note; the M8 trademark was registered in May 2006 - 4 months before photokina 06. Other Leica Camera trademarks recently applied for (2008): Noctivid (low-light or light-amplification scopes, sights, etc.), Aquadura (waterproof coating for optical instruments) Final note: multiple products can register the same trademark so long as they are not in competing fields: E.g. Riley Posted July 22, 2008 Share #4 Posted July 22, 2008 thanks to the irrepressible Mr Piper.... kinda interesting move when you think about it a bit OT here perhaps, but Olympus have registered the name E-30 in Japan E-30 is the rumoured in between camera beyond E-520 and below E-3 and follows the older OM notation used ummm, in the last century... Guest jimmy pro Posted July 22, 2008 Share #5 Posted July 22, 2008 Final note: multiple products can register the same trademark so long as they are not in competing fields: E.g. BMW has also registered "M9" for cars. Interesting in that Canon and Nikon both used D60 for DSLR's, although the Canon was discontinued way before the Nikon was borned. sdai Posted July 22, 2008 Share #6 Posted July 22, 2008 Note the filing date was on September 3, 2007 when Lee was still in the office, I suspect that Leica has already shelved the M9 since Lee has been ousted in Feb. 2008.
Pitxu Posted July 22, 2008 Share #7 Posted July 22, 2008 Advertisement (gone after registration) I was under the impression that all "M" numbers were registered long ago. Originally Olympus wanted to name their OM series M, but were prevented from doing so by Leica.
marknorton Posted July 22, 2008 Share #8 Posted July 22, 2008 Pretty vile user interface...
M. Valdemar Posted July 23, 2008 Share #9 Posted July 23, 2008 Leitz politely requested that Olympus stop using the "M1" name and Olympus complied. That was in a different era when people has scruples.
steich Posted July 23, 2008 Share #10 Posted July 23, 2008 Hi, in Germany, Leica have registered both "R10" and "R11" at the "Deutsches Patent- und Markenamt". See: https://dpinfo.dpma.de/protect/mar.html For "Aktenzeichen" (Registration number) enter 302008025927.2 (this is for the R10, for R11 it´s 302008025928.0) Regards Stefan
