innerimager Posted February 8, 2007 Share #1 Posted February 8, 2007 Advertisement (gone after registration) I have a 1.25, (Hong Kong version) and like it. The higher magnification (that's 1.35 sorry) and especially the diopter adjust on this product appeals. Anyone with experience with it? (search gave no result), thanks...Peter
Advertisement Posted February 8, 2007 Posted February 8, 2007 Hi innerimager, Take a look here megaperl 1.33 magnifier? . I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
Guest guy_mancuso Posted February 8, 2007 Share #2 Posted February 8, 2007 Peter my only worry is it maybe too long. I can see the 28 frame lines pretty well now. Not sure 1.33 would retain that though. Be interesting to hear what folks thought

Not sure 1.33 would retain that though. Be interesting to hear what folks thought Guy, I only put the magnifier on from 50mm out. I much prefer the look of the largerr frames, especially the 35, without the magnifier, and of course the 28 is tougher. So for the 50-75-?90 I'd like more size, and I'd really like the diopter adjust so I can really lock in, or even remove my glasses. best....Peter
LJL Posted February 8, 2007 Share #4 Posted February 8, 2007 Peter, Reading some other threads about this finder magnifier, I thought that it could not be sold to folks in the US (might not applyt to you, so please do not be offended), as it was in violation of patent agreements on Leica stuff or something. Somebody else said they had oreder a version for an SLR (did not say which one), and it worked very well, and was shipped to the states. I have thought about this one also, as the built-in diopeter adjustment would be nice at the slightly higher magnifications. LJ

I try to just leave mine on all the time so for me it may not work as well.
fjmcsu Posted February 8, 2007 Share #6 Posted February 8, 2007 The HK magnifier apparently is ok to order in USA(I am expecting one anyday). This is the one not legal in USA. Megaperls Webshop - Films and more directly from Japan
LJL Posted February 8, 2007 Share #7 Posted February 8, 2007 Advertisement (gone after registration) Francisco, That is the one I want, but see the caution. Guest Olof Posted February 8, 2007 Share #8 Posted February 8, 2007 i use the Leica 1.25x magnifier, its perfekt ! I can see all frames (if it hat to be also the 24mm) and the LEDs. Somebody told here that with a higher magnifikation viewing the LEDs could be a problem. And by the way i never want to profane my Leica, with a ordinary Honkong Lens. (The megaperls thing in the title caught me.) LJ Don't you own a Nikon D70/50 or D2X? And don't you need a 1.33 viewfinder magnifier for it and have the Nikon adapter. sdai Posted February 8, 2007 Share #10 Posted February 8, 2007 Megaperl doesn't make the magnifier ... it's M-S Optics in Tokyo who also does mod of Contax G lenses to M etc. The magnifier is of very high quality but I suspect they'll ship the product to US or Germany for obvious patent related restrictions. The HK 1.25 magnifer is good enough too ... of course, if you prefer the original Leica, then go for it.
rfm Posted February 8, 2007 Share #11 Posted February 8, 2007 I had to have mine shipped to a friend in Canada and then it magically appeared on my doorstep in Texas. I have used one for 2 years on my R-D1 and liked the adj. diopter. It works great with the 75 Lux on my M8. Ron
gesper Posted February 9, 2007 Share #12 Posted February 9, 2007 The HK Supplies maginifier screws into the original eyepiece, but for the megaperl magnifier it looks like you have to unscrew the original Leica eyepiece and then screw in the magnifier. Is this correct? I tried unscrewing my original eyepiece and it seems stuck. Is it supposed to unscrew?

Is this correct? I tried unscrewing my original eyepiece and it seems stuck. Is it supposed to unscrew? Yes the original unscrews but you need a special spanner wrench, Leica, to do it properly (IE without damaging anything). I really don't think you need to take off the REAL eye piece to use any of these magnifiers.
gesper Posted February 9, 2007 Share #14 Posted February 9, 2007 Has anyone used a megaperls with an M8? How did you attach it? The screw threads appear to be much bigger than those of the HK.
steich Posted February 9, 2007 Share #15 Posted February 9, 2007 Hi, I have the megaperls 1,3 and it fits into the M8´s eyepiece just like that. They have two versions: Be sure to buy the magnifier they recommend for the Leica M, not the one their website shows attached to the rd-1. This one does NOT fit, it´s too large indeed. With the M-version, there is no need to modify or mutilate the M8. Nice tool, recommended. I have no 28 lens, so I can´t tell if the frame disappears. But for 50 and 90, it is marvellous. gesper Posted February 9, 2007 Share #16 Posted February 9, 2007 Unfortunately, I bought the wrong one, andit's way too big. I guess I need to find someone with an RD-1 who wants it.
scho Posted March 4, 2007 Share #17 Posted March 4, 2007 I ordered the 1.35 magnifier (with diopter) from megaperls on thursday (specified EMS shipping) and it was delivered today (Sunday). Pretty fast service from Japan to eastern USA. Very nice and I really appreciate having the adjustable diopter.
glenerrolrd Posted March 4, 2007 Share #18 Posted March 4, 2007 I ordered the 1.35 magnifier (with diopter) from megaperls on thursday (specified EMS shipping) and it was delivered today (Sunday). Pretty fast service from Japan to eastern USA. Very nice and I really appreciate having the adjustable diopter. After reviewing the Megaperls website ..I see they have several alternatives. I thought I read somewhere that the 1.33 was there newest and best alternative form a M8. It looks like it has a larger optic ( which might be brighter ?). Its also a lot less expensive than the 1.35 . It is also shown with a M series..so it appears that it would fit right out of the box. It looked it will be sold and shipped to the USA ..as it can also be used on a Nikon with an adapter ..which appears to get around the import restrictions. Can anybody confirm the above? gesper Posted March 4, 2007 Share #19 Posted March 4, 2007 Be very careful. The one that can be used on a Nikon is much larger and cannot be screwed into the M8 viewfinder. The picture on the website is of an RD1. That said the larger one is actually better if you can find a way to attach it in that it has a much larger field of view than other magnifiers (you can easily see the framelines and LED) plus has the adjsutable diopter. I was able to attach it using thin wire, a piece of rubber from a bicycle inner tube, and two small cable ties. Now if I can only keep from knocking it off accidentaly.
